So, as I posted in the other thread..

Here's the poll.. Call your shot!

Let's see who knows baseball...

Huskers win 1 (Mac Start), Sears will pitch well enough to win but the sticks won't produce and the game lost. The day 3 game will be a repeat of the Rutgers series and in the end a loss by more than 3 runs.

As much as I may play it like you have laid out, hearing Sears will throw game 1.

There's no moving on at 3-2, nor is 2-3 possible, it is a double-elimination tournament, by definition, the second loss is season ending.

Nebraska went 3-2 in 2021, beating Northeastern, losing to Arkansas, beating NJIT, beating Arkansas, and then losing to Arkansas. I could see a similar outcome this year.

Thanks for pointing my error (pun intended). Corrected.

I don't expect Niagara to be a factor in the Tourney.

It's fairly possible that the Huskers might have to face Florida twice or perhaps Oklahoma State twice.  Depending on game 1 & game 2 of course.

This is a real tough regional.  Really good hitting teams.  Need our bats and score a lot of runs, can't just rely on pitching.

As for my shot call, I'm saying we win 2 games and I don't have enough courage to pick the Huskers to win it all.  Not impossible, but not so likely.

I don't see us going 0-2.  We have a pretty good team.  One of the better teams in quite awhile.

I don't think you can label them paper tigers. They were picked 5th in the conference preseason, and just won the B1G tournament and made a regional.  They've over achieved, and it has already been a successful year relative to realistic expectations.

Know your foes! My quick .02 from the perspective of someone that has seen Florida and Oklahoma State 10+ times this year.

As others have mentioned, this is a tough, tough regional. I think we can expect some really high scoring games at times because the ball really flies at Okie State's stadium usually (check out some of their previous regional scores...it's nuts!).

To me there are basically two versions of this Florida team and who they decide to pitch will really influence my thoughts. If Florida throws Jac Caglianone in game one and his stuff is on, Nebraska is in for a tough, tough battle. Caglianone has electric stuff but thankfully (for Nebraska) he has a tendency to walk a lot of guys and his pitch count can get up there in a hurry. Nebraska will have to patient against him if he goes. If Florida throws one of their other guys in Petersen or Coppola then I like Nebraska's chances with Sears throwing in game one. From a hitting standpoint, UF has been pretty banged up by they have a true difference maker in Caglianone who will probably be the best hitter Nebraska sees all year. Cags is hitting .415 and has 29 HR and is a sure fire 1st round pick.

I don't expect much from Niagara so we can skip them.

Okie State is unfortunately going to be a really tough out in their home park. Unlike past teams that would just try and gorilla ball you to death, this team can actually pitch. They've got a pair of starters in Garcia and Holiday that are able to go super deep in games and an emerging really good 3rd pitcher in Benge who is a two way stud for them. Their bullpen is solid with good arms but doesn't have what I'd consider a true elite closer. From a hitting standpoint they've got 5 guys with double digit homers and an emerging stud in Nolan Schubart who is a really tough out at the plate.

There are certainly paths here for Nebraska to win this regional if NU is able to get pitching performances like they did in every game sans the first Ohio State game. The shaky bullpen worries me (like all of us) but I'm hopeful that NU found something in Caleb Clark and he can match up with Worthley and give NU a nice 1-2 at the back end.

The big thing to remember is Nebraska is going to give up some HRs and if the wind is blowing out, O'Brate turns into a certifiable launching pad so we might see some good pitches turn into HRs just because of the way the park is structured.

All in all, this is a really fun regional and there should be lots of competitive games.

last place trophy?   do you have a link to that?

You asked for it smarty pants :P   (not name calling, I actually like commando's post more than most..)

Everyone on a team should get a trophy regardless of whether the team came in first or dead last. That’s because participation trophies help young people celebrate a time when they learned new skills, had fun with their teammates, and belonged to something bigger than themselves.
