Camping Out: Quarterbacks

One veteran practice observer says he thinks Darlington has the edge over Fyfe for the #2 job. Bush hasn't looked as good as he did in the spring.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Zack get some playing time this year.
Good lord, let's hope so. If this staff doesn't start developing the backup QB's a little better than the previous staff, I will be very disappointed.
South Alabama. Southern Miss, Purdue and Rutgers should provide great opportunities for that.
No kidding. I hope a young backup gets significant playing time in the second half of every game. That would mean we're winning the game and developing a QB for the future.

Among the backups, Zack Darlington throws the ball with good accuracy - he tossed a corner route to the end zone just about perfectly on Thursday - generally finds the "right guy" late in the route tree. He appears less likely to force a bad throw because he'll wait an extra beat for the good one. He's savvy. A.J. Bush is long. Long-striding runner, long motion for a passer. Bush has his moments. He's thrown some really impressive passes, including a few on the run. At this point, I watch him and wonder how many ten-play drives he could lead. Ryker Fyfe has received the most snaps with the No. 2 offense that we've seen and he's done OK. He's been more accurate with the deep passes. Armstrong's been better on some of the tougher routes to throw because the velocity on his ball is better.

Sounds like we need to create a FrankenQB out of all of them to make a good one.
That's what I was thinking. I was mostly thinking combine Darlington and Armstrong.
Our luck we would end up with a guy who forces short throws into tight windows with head injury worries.

SEEN: Jordan Westerkamp returning to practice and busting off defensive backs on several good catches, including a deep pass from Tommy Armstrong.

SEEN: Armstrong smacking his helmet after missing an open Devine Ozigbo on a wheel route. Armstrong threw the ball at Ozigbo's feet.

SEEN: A bad interception thrown by Armstrong, in which he tossed the ball over the head of Turner and right into the waiting arms of safety Nate Gerry. The problem with the interception wasn't so much the throw, but that Turner wasn't open and Armstrong didn't toss the ball to Imani Cross in the flat.

Why do I get the feeling that by the time the season comes the RBs are going to be the leading receivers because TA is going to be scared to throw to anyone without checking down to the RB?
