carl pelini

If you google "carl pelini affair" you will see that the majority of the links are to forums and the number of blogs. The number of creditable media outlets who have even mentioned this is 0. The more I read this the less I believe it. It is just the same info from the chain email over and over.

On here it would end instantly, obviously. But that doesn't change the fact people have heard it from other sources. Pretending it's not there won't make it go away, and if it's true we're going to have big problems. Hopefully it's nothing, but this is Rumorville after all, and I'm pretty sure that means rumors are free for debate. I'm afraid of what might come out after signing day.

Right. "Other sources," like other message boards, or chain emails, or someone who heard it from someone else. Name one credible source where this rumor starts. When you can't, maybe it's time to reevaluate the legitimacy of this rumor.

Pretending unicorns aren't there makes them go away. Sooner or later everyone forgets they ever heard of them. Works the same with unfounded rumors.

And I thought people were worried about what was going to happen after the bowl game when this started. Now it's Signing Day? If nothing happens by then, do we have to wait until the Spring Game?

Define a credible source. Do you really expect something like this to come from Bo or Carl himself? What do you want me to say - Bo texted me today and told me? You want the pictures my private investigator took of them? I heard about it from my dad, like I said, who has plenty of ties to the university and athletic program. You don't know Nebraska culture very well if you think something like this doesn't get around. Everyone knows everyone in this state. I haven't participated in this rumor once before today, so don't talk to me about who said what a month ago. It's rumorville, if you don't like rumors don't visit the section and don't visit the page. Nothing may come it, you're right, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Solich was messing around with cheerleaders too - NU didn't reveal that for all to see. This is a message board for discussions - this one about rumors. I'm not passing out flyers at the Omaha World Herald. It's something I heard separately from here, where a lot of other people had heard it also. If I want to discuss it I will.

A few points:

1. knapplc was not attacking your father. He was pointing out that to date there has been no credible source. Credible sources, in cases like this, are generally official statements from the athletic department or from a reputable news organization that receives corroborating evidence or information from multiple sources that, given their status, are more likely than not privy to the information. While your father may very well know what he's talking about, for the people reading your statements it's still the same as anyone else coming on the Board and claiming a single source that isn't verified by any others. All knapplc was doing was pointing out that nothing has been presented that people would generally agree was "official", and until that happens (and the longer it goes without happening), the greater the likelihood that the rumor has no basis. Not absolute proof - but it increases the probability.

2. As a Mod, part of knapplc's duites is to try and read every post in every thread. He doesn't have the luxury of blowing by threads or posts.

3. Yes, you can discuss it if you want - unless and until a Mod or Admin says otherwise. Something knapplc has not done that - but if he or another Mod does, the discussion ends.

I've been told I need "legitimate sources" or "credible sources." However, by definition a rumor does not have a credible or legitimate source. If it did, it wouldn't be a rumor, it would be a fact. This isn't Factville.

I understand completely why you don't want this kind of thing popping up everywhere and how it's damaging to perpetuate unfounded rumors of this nature. But I honestly don't understand what Rumorville is for if not for this. I'm just saying what I heard, and only mentioned it because my dad does not read message boards at all. He might be wrong, his source might be wrong, I get it. I didn't even pay attention to this thread until I heard it yesterday and was just wondering if anyone else had heard anything new, that's all. It obviously doesn't seem to be a problem, thankfully, and appears it will all blow over. But I just wanted to ask if anything else had popped up recently. It seems everything is chain mail and internet boards and nothing new has come out about it, so I'm done posting here anyway, there's nothing new to learn/hear.

P.S - I didn't start this thread - there were 3 pages before I ever posted.

 
I heard something about Bo's Salt water aquarium guy, Carl Pelini, A booster's wife, a sorority girl, six nuns and a penguin and I had to check it out.. So what gives? Is Carl making trouble? Is it anybodies business but the people involved? Should T.O. get involved in a personal matter, boosters wife or not?? All intriguing...... hmmmm *scratches chin**

I did some calling and I can't confirm any of this. Everyone you mentioned hung up on me except the penguin, and he just said, "No comment." He said it suspiciously, though. Hmmmm.....

 
this is ridiculous. this thread, the chain email, everything, is mass hysteria defined.

if im a texas fan, or mizzou fan, or whatever fan, im laughing my a$$ off at this thread and the "rome is falling" lean of the posts, and hoping our self-inflicted PR nightmare continues to catch wind.

This rumor will never be addressed by the University publicly just like Cody Glenn's reason for suspension was never addressed publicly. It doesn't mean it happened or it didn't happen. Solich and Bohl's indiscretions were never addressed publicly either. People have the right to believe or not believe the rumor. It is kind of comical though after several years how it has just become fact by several that both Solich and Bohl had indiscretions. The way I see it, eventually we will know. Many believe Bo will only leave if the Ohio State job opens up. If he leaves for another school and it isn't Ohio State, then I'd say there was a little fire involved with the smoke. I can't think if this rumor is true that there isn't a little bit of friction now between TO and Bo.

 
Here's how this rumor started.

Sorority girl #1: "Do you think if Carl Pelini went out to the clubs he could get any?"

Sorority girl #2: "I don't think Helen Keller drinks."

#1: "Helen Keller is dead stupid!"

(giggles)

#1: "Do you want to have a pillow fight in our bras and panties?"

#2: "Nah...............Hey, let's start a rumor about Carl and Miss Nebraska. People will fall out of their chairs."

#1: "Ok, I'll tell some people at class tomorrow. But let's make it Mrs. Nebraska, that will make it a bigger mess."

#2: "Alright, I'll do one of those chain emails."

#2: "Ok, now let's pillow fight......... No bras though!

I don't know about anyone else...but I'll feel a whole lot better (or a whole lot worse) when contract extensions are announced...I remember Osborne being quoted as saying the assistants' contracts expire the end of January, and they will be announcing the new terms then. Well...its Feb 2nd...

Also strange to me, is the fact that a bunch of stories lately have Carl quotes in them, and the big write up on Huskers.com about staff continuity. A part of me thinks that would have gotten the ax, were anything going to happen in the next few days/weeks...but, I guess we won't know until we see the new contract info.

This right here tells me that the rumor of his impending termination is wrong. They're not going to let him continue to be a face of the program if he's got one foot out the door.

I have no idea if Carl fooled around with some woman. Maybe he did. Likely we'll never know. The results of that possible dalliance are probably something we also will never know, barring Carl's termination.

My conclusion on all of this: None of the rumors we've heard so far mean that anything happened. Every one of them could be the fabrications of bra-less sorority girls pre-pillow fight. Every one of them could be true. But regardless, we're never going to know, just like we never "knew" the truth about any other internal issue on the staff or with players.

It's been an interesting diversion to skewer some of the more fanciful stories on this one, but bottom line - I'm a skeptic, and likely always will be.
