Well, since he's only from a couple hours away, I would suggest not doing something that makes him think you're insulting the area he's from.

Hey, I lived in BA  (Broken Arrow) now just outside of BA.   We don't like insults!! .  

BA won the state championship last year and lost in the simifinals this year in the states highest classification.  Great, competitive team and he would be a great addition to NU.
