CBS Sports: Breaking Down the Big Ten Schedules

So.......on a scale of F to A+ where does everybody think our schedule strength grades out at?
B - just a gut instinct.

I was thinking - if the SEC is soooo great, why isn't the conference champion have 3 or 4 loses every year? I would think they would beat up on each other because they are soooo good that having undefeated or once beat teams would be the exception, not the rule, unless . . .

Unless you want another two loss team in the title game, I'd curb that wish.

The B1G blog at ESPN is asking the fan to create the ideal B1G football schedule. http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/101512/creating-the-ideal-b1g-schedule-model

Personally, I want to see 8-9 conference games and the rest of the Non-Cons be against the other "Power 5". This myth that these schools NEED a 7th home game is ridiculous now that the apparel contracts and TV deals are into the stratosphere. In addition these conferences could make a valid argument that every game on their schedule could be TV worthy.

Not as easy as last year's but close.
For the lack of a marquee name other than Wisconsin and Miami?
And MSU

My original point remains. There are probably 8 games on that schedule NU wins handily. I can't call any schedule for any team that has that "tough". They will be judged by how they perform in those three games.

They look kind of similar to me, or not similar but equal.

Both years have two joke schools, one decent mid major and one 'marquee' name as OOC games (UCLA is better than Miami, but Fresno is better than Wyoming). We keep Illinois, Purdue, Iowa and Minnesota as games we should win period, then replace Penn State with Rutgers (not as good) and Michigan with Wisconsin (better), but get our four toughest matchups (MSU, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa) on the road.

I do believe outside of a few, the posters on this board are absolutely clueless, and follow the lead of the rest of the sheep. To compare one year with the next is fruitless, no grounds to determine how any game will go other than the obvious talent on the teams involved giving one team an advantage, which doesn't always compute to victory on the field.

It's off season and the fans that make football their do all end all are all full of s__t without a clue. I would even venture a guess that few if any of the posters on here pulled on pads even at the Jr High level. Just a bunch of arm chair Head Coaches and QB's.

Yes I did play HS and JR College, just wasn't talented enough or fast enough to compete with the best. Did play on same team with a future Heisman Trophy winner in HS.

What makes everyone think that Michigan State is going to be a loss. Without the 5 turnovers last yr, do you think MS still wins????? Same for Iowa for that matter... Does UCLA come back without Taylor being injured in first half, doubtful. Minnesota was just a plain old a$$ kicking by a team taken to lightly.

I don't post on here much due to the fact that it's always the same few with bulls--t opinions, based on nothing other than what they hear from like minded fools.

Started following the Huskers in '58, began drinking the kool-aid in 62.....in case you need assistance counting, that's 56yrs yelling GBR. I've seen some average and some of the best ever. This years team has the chance to be very good.... This is a very young and very talented team. If you can't see that, then you really are clueless.... if you do see it, then most of you jump on Pelini as the problem. The posters of this board (with a few exceptions, those in the know) aren't happy unless they have something to b!^@h about...GBR
Crap, well the "We are undefeated if you discount turnovers and injuries" banner is just going to have to wait. There's a severe back order on red nylon thread.
Injuries and TO are part of the game, its just that when it comes to your favorite team you think people are making excuses, but if we are talking about Georgia or Florida losing its starting QB or RB or 2-3 linemen than that is something that needs to be taken into account.

the road games definitely make this schedule tougher than it looks if just looking at the teams we play. but is fresno better than wyoming? i honestly do not know. i am extremely intrigued and excited for that game.

B+

Miami solid top 5 conference team

On the road to a good mid-major

Two cupcakes

Average conference slate, but all meaningful games are on the road which ups the difficulty.

I'm guessing you're judging on an absolute scale. As in comparing the schedule to all schedules ever played.

On an absolute scale like that I'd say B-

Looking at the CBS breakdown and using a relative scale of the other schedules, I'd put us around 20th out of 128. There's less than 10 schedules on there I'd rate above a B+ on an absolute scale.

It's a B schedule, which is good IMO I wouldn't give too many team above a B. Looking a back at the 2011 and 2012 schedules were about A-.

So, Alabama has a D+ schedule, and FSU's is about a C or C-. Cool.
