CBS Sports has us in the Rose Bowl

If Ohio State stumbles, then they're first in line for the Rose Bowl bid.
I know. I was pointing out that our bid for the Rose Bowl is likely contingent on Ohio State not slipping along the way. If they do, that Rose Bowl spot is probably theirs.

both his quotes say roughly the same thing.
Yeah, I'm not sure what was confusing about what I posted. Ohio State is undefeated. If they win out, they'll likely play in the Championship game. That opens the door for another Big Ten team to go to the Rose Bowl. That could be us.

If Ohio State loses, then they're probably out of the running for the Championship game. That likely puts them first in line for the Rose Bowl.
However, if Ohio State loses in the conference championship game, they will not be playing the the Rose Bowl.

The likely scenario for us in the Rode Bowl is if we only lose to Michigan, and then Michigan loses back-to-back games to tOSU. Then tOSU goes to the BCSNC game, and we're in the running for the Roses. We don't have to win our division to make it.

HUH?

You think Michigan is going to lose at The Shoe, go to the Big Ten Championship, lose, and we will go to the Rose Bowl? I would say that is the least likely situation that gets us to the Rose Bowl.

So you are presuming they will pick a two-loss team (UCLA and Michigan) who didn't win their division over a two-loss team (tOSU X2) that did win their division and played in the Conference Championship?

We don't have to win our division to make it.
Yes, yes we do.

It's very unlikely for a team to go to a BCS bowl when they lose their conference championship game. Odds are if we lost to an undefeated OSU team in the Big 10 Championship game we would drop to the Capital One Bowl or Outback Bowl. An at large team would take the Rose Bowl spot, which could even be Michigan at that point.

One thing to keep in mind is the bowls want the teams that have good traveling fanbases. This is where I think Nebraska could trump a team. However, I think these predictions are so fluid at this point in the season.

Just focus on Purdue. One game at a time.

We have a LOT of improvement to do on defense before we even think about a BCS bowl. As it stands we're going to have to outscore Northwestern and possibly Michigan, and if we make it far enough we'll have to outscore Ohio State, too.
We certainly must keep improving on the defensive side of the ball. We are seeing some improvement each game and find the Huskers currently ranked 6th in INTs, 31st in sacks/game and 27th in TFL.
