i don't think we will ever see the same guy who ran the zone read in his first season. that guy is no longer with us.

You might be right. But there were flashes last year where that guy showed up. Not all the time, and honestly not nearly often enough, but he was there. I'm rewatching the Penn State game, and on the drive where we scored our second TD, Taylor had a great read/run right up the gut with old-Taylor acceleration. He followed that by a pretty decent and gutsy Option, including a late pitch to Rex after both had run past the Safety, leading to Rex's 14-yard TD. That was a heck of a set of back-to-back plays.

If he can put that together for a season he'll be scary for opponents, especially combined with Rex. We have yet to see that, though.

That first play against Penn State in the two-play combo I'm talking about was a Zone Read.

Still think the zone read is where we have seen Taylor at his deadliest running the ball. Not weaving through traffic downfield or dodging or powering through defenders, or making quick cuts upfield in the option. Just straight zoomin' through a crease given by a DL that took Rex.

opposing defenses sure know what the zone red looks like, maybe we can get TM into a different wrinkle for using that straight ahead speed, i hope Beck is working on some different looks......

Still think the zone read is by far the best way to get him to use simple straight-ahead burst. Nothing else will put him in that much space from the point of the snap.

Mark my word. Taylor Martinez will be lights out this year. Denard Robinson is overrated and always has been. He's a ticking time bomb of interceptions and bad decisions. Martinez will outplay Robinson, all year long.

Who's overrating Denard? Sure seems like from this board and every other non-Michigan internet bastion that Denard is an absolutely terrible QB, that Braxton Miller is already 100% better (not to mention his potential) and that the entire team lucked its way into 11 wins. Denard will get hurt in the first week of B1G play and Hoke will be exposed. Everyone knows this.

Still would like to know who stole Bo's copy of the UM-MSU game last year!!! MSU blitzed Robinson from the time they finished breakfast till they went to bed!!! We must have lost the video or had it stolen cause we didn't bring anybody!

That's more of Bo just being Bo. He's stubborn when it comes to pressuring and containing QBs, doesn't really believe in spying the QB and rarely blitzes with a corner. I think he believes that they should be able to get adequate pressure with the line and maybe a linebacker.

I think you're right, and hopefully the new guys on the defensive staff will make them stop playing patty-cake with the O-line. I've liked the things I've heard about Coach Kaz so far, so hopefully we see a noticeable difference this season.

I personally believe that if the Huskers are going to stop Denard, they have to blitz him and blitz him OFTEN! You have to rattle a guy like that because previous performances show that he tends to make poor decisions with the ball when he is under high amounts of pressure. However, I thought the Huskers did a decent job of containing Shaw in the bowl game with their plan that was in place, yet the secondary crapped their pants and gave up big plays.

Was watching College Football Live after work and they had their roundtable discussion led by none other than Kirk Herbstreit. My thoughts? Wow I feel sorry for Taylor Martinez. Poor guy was getting ripped on left and right (mostly his mechanics of course) by Mark Schlabach . No clue why that guy was on. He seems like a large POS. Anyway, Taylor was just the tip of the iceberg. Next was the D how will we replace talent lost at each level (Crick, David and Denard) it was a fair question asked by Jesse Palmer who, imo, was the only one to give us any sort of love.

Oh and of course they showed the highlight of BO chewing Taylor's a$$. ESPN loves showing that for some reason. That's all I've got for now. Just wondering if anyone else caught it? There will be a replay at 530 today on ESPNU and at 3am on ESPN2.

Palmer did say that Baker Steinkehuler(sp?) is the coolest name in all of college football. So yeah, I guess we got that going for us, jeesh!

Forgot to add that there was a slight bias with Herbie and Robert Smith from OSU and Desmond Howard (me no likey him) from Michigan. Then Palmer and that other guy who sucks.

I like getting college football news and used to dvr CFL regularly but it is almost unwatchable in my opinion. I really only watch ESPN for games anymore as almost all of their other programming is so biased and agenda driven I can't stomach it. They are in bed with too many people to be unbiased.
