Team HuskerBoard
I was on the IRC server last night with our friendly admin, Dave.

Getting operator status in a channel or "chat room"

He set up a bot on the IRC server that should reside as operator in each of the channels (or "chat rooms") on the IRC server. When one of us moderators needs to log into the chat and get operator status in a channel, simply message the user HuskerBoard with the following text

opme123 channelname

So if you wanted operator status for the Huskerboard channel, you would say

opme123 huskerboard

Or if you wanted operator status in the HeadCoach channel, you'd type

opme123 headcoach

The bot will then give you operator status in that channel. Enabling to kick fools out, ban them, etc. Remember that bans don't survive a server restart. If we get some real trouble makers, Dave can adjust the firewall to prevent them from connecting.

If multiple mods are in the chat room, do no give each other operator status. All mods must use the bot to get operator status. If we get in to the habit of giving operator status, we could easily give a poser operator status.

I need to check if you can kick and ban from the java client, but from a client like mIRC you can just right click on the user, click Control and click Kick.

/msg HuskerBoard opme123 Huskerboard

In this case, HuskerBoard is the bot name and Huskerboard is the channel name
