ColoradoHusker posted a clear personal attack, calling another board member an "ignorant asshat" in the main football forum, Link.

Rather than giving him a 14-day suspension, I unintentionally banned him. I attempted to correct the issue but am unable to lift the ban, though I believe I was able to put him on suspension already. Could someone take a look at this for me?

Here is his profile, ColoradoHusker.

I tried to move him back to the Members group - out of the Banned group - but that didn't seem to work.

I saw the report but just moved the post to Offending Posts. My own personal view is that some times people cross the line but given the circumstances - not a particularly blatant attack, extenuating circumstances, etc. - don't feel that it rises to the level of needing a Warning which would also take into account the posting history. My view on this situation was that Bowfin's comments relating Chicago and gun shots wasn't particularly necessary or relevant and - particularly given Bowfin's posting history - thought a somewhat-over-the-top response from ColoradoHusk probably should just be moved to Offending Posts and left at that.

Now, it's my fault for forgetting to go back to the report and stating what happened. And I'm not going to overrule someone else's call. But I just thought I'd explain what I saw in the situation and why I did what I did.

I *think* I succeeded in removing the ban.

I agree with this. There are members who on occasion will lose their cool, but generally are people we can work with. I don't know if I read these posts in particular by Bowfin, but that nod towards his posting history makes sense to me in general. When it's a member not gleefully trolling people or messing around with us, I don't think they need to be hit too hard. That said, a clear over the line post is plenty fair game for a warning.

Dude, what the f#*k? That is the lamest thing ever. That was hardly a personal attack. You guys are so damn sensitive.

The warning and suspension last month was because I "derailed" a thread. In my opinion, this is the first time I had a "personal attack" on someone. I don't see how the two incidents are related.

Subject: Suspension?

I guess that I was given a 2-week suspension for a "personal attack" on a poster. I understand that I called that poster an asshat, but I don't think it was worthy of a suspension.

I don't get how I get no warning, and I am all of a sudden given a suspension.

I understand how I was suspended a month ago, but that was for a different "offense" of sidetracking the original intent of the post. I think you guys are getting too heavy-handed, and throwing out suspensions without any warning. There are a lot worse offenses from people on that message board, but they seem to be getting away with things.

I think I am being targeted by a few admins because I may not agree with their board agenda.

Sincerely,

ColoradoHusk

Funny, how it's always because we have a board agenda...

Let me see if I can log in and respond to him.

I'm an idiot, sorry. I have no idea what my password is, again. Ever since we cut off POP3/IMAP or whatever, it just hasn't been an arrangement I've been able to keep up. If you can reset it for me, AR, I promise to add it to KeePass this time.

It sounds like Mav had is covered, but I did not realize it was resolved. The suspension came as a result of his post but also because I noticed he received another warning recently, albeit for a different offense. Regarding his concern he is being targeted, I honestly have not noticed his posts, let alone take offense to the enough to target the guy. Oh well, he will think what he wants.
