Computer Memory Issues

Anyone else having issues with memory the last couple days? Both my home and work computer have been suddenly telling me they're out of memory and internet pages (Chrome) doing weird things.

I'm kind of suspecting Twitter is causing it for some reason. Seems like it's a memory hog all of the sudden. Same machines I've had for quite awhile and never had out of memory messages before.

 
Twitter was pretty wonky this morning, just about exactly during the Inauguration. Maybe that's nothing, maybe someone thought a DDOS attack at that time would be funny. But I noticed it was slowing everything down.

How are DDOS attacks done? With botnets? I imagine it would take a pretty big operation to take down a service the size of twitter.

Yes. The first "D" stands for "Distributed", meaning from a large number of computers sending requests to the server to overwhelm it's capacity to provide the requested pages.
