Cooper Dingleberry

If Cooper Castleberry is scheduled to lead the officials this Saturday I will probably stick my head through the wall. There will be no holding penalties, which isn't really that new to us, and at least two or three other really questionable calls. On top of that we never seem to play very well in games he refs.

Not a conspiracy theory here, although yours is more than welcome for discussion, but it always seems that Cooper and NU do not mix.

Hopefully he's not a Texas grad like the last ref who screwed us!

I posted some stats last year showing how very, very few holding penalties were being called by our opponents despite the fact that we clearly had a D Line that dominated every single O Line we played last year. Once I posted that I started noticing that it wasn't just Nebraska that was getting the shaft on holding calls, but that most every single game they weren't calling holding as much. I think it's a QB protection thing, but it really, really sucks.

But how many of those holding calls came as a result of the D-line putting pressure on the QB? I distinctly remember David being held during the K-State game (believe it came on a long run or kick return?)

I don't like it, but being that holding can be called just about every play, I'm sure we get away with our share of holding calls.

I understand that holding can be called on every play, but the issue in this conference is the obvious, play-effecting fouls are let go. Remember the hold on David against K-state on their long run (not plural chuckleshuffle ) had a huge effect on the play. and just check out the jerseys of our d-line after each game under the arms/chest area. I think it is a thing of protecting our high profile quarterbacks in this league, which has helped allow this conference to become such an offensive conference. Heck for a couple years there is was like the Pac 10.

now if you really want to get conspiratorial, think along the lines of how having "prestigious" QB's and Offenses makes your games more exciting to the general audience and in turn makes your league more marketable. Considering the way calls have gone historically in this league, I won't be surprised if we actually get the better end of the deal this time around.
