Hey, I'm wondering if it would be a good (and feasible) idea to set up custom Huskerboard shortened URLs? Something like this:
http://mashable.com/...stom-short-url/
Which, when you go to bit.ly to shorten it, turns into:
http://on.mash.to/9pM5vS
(The link itself is an article explaining how to set this up for your own domain. All we'd need I think, is a new domain name to use for the shortened links.)
For example, hskr.bd (the .bd is for Bangladesh
), or going by the example above, hskrbd.to. Here's a complete list of extensions available.
Mainly I guess, it'd make it a lot easier to link to forum posts in status messages, and on twitter. Promotes some of the social visibility of the site both internally (using the status updates tool) and elsewhere online, although who knows how many users would take to it. The cost should only be whatever it costs to maintain the extra domain name, and I imagine that HB, as with most sites, already has several domain names registered that point to huskerboard.com.
