Dana Holgorsen Hired as Offensive Coordinator

Holgorsen is a spread offense guy. Funny how this theme keeps coming up this year.

Guess that didn't last long.

I tell you that Dana is a brilliant mind for an offensive co.  I followed him closely at WVU and I am telling you this will be a game changer for the future. Give him the reigns and an off season and DR will have a huge sophomore season.  He is a far better fit for OC than head coach in my opinion.  Funny guy and will bring energy and unpredictability to this offense.  It will not hurt this year, but he will need a season to put his system in place.

I think Chip Kelly moving to OC is going to make that type of move a lot more normal going forward.  DH had moderate success at WV (Houston was rough), but seems like he’d excel as a coordinator.

Yes sir - should satisfy some of the Pelini crowd lol.  I like the fire as long as he doesn't take it too far.  I am curious how he handles the Nebraska fan base constant scrutiny.
As a consultant shouldn’t matter too much to him. It’s not like he has to press conferences, right?  I love the slightly shady aspect of this.  Feels right.

Kind of a Beliema type dude.  Get him in that group chat stat!

A consultant with an evolving role....  that can only mean one thing imo.  People don't evolve to lower positions.

Lots of drooling over the guy who put up the #86 offense in the country last year.

Satt was widely derided for being a failure at South Carolina.  They were #72 in the country his last year there.

You make a really good point about Holgorsen having been 86th - and I have a feeling our fans won't wind up liking what he does.

But 86th & 72nd are close enough for me to say the difference doesn't mean much. Both were bad.

Go ahead and post his other offensive stats over the years he has been coaching.  I am sure they won’t be close to Sharts offenses.

But isn’t OC not the HC accountable for the offense. Otherwise we should fire rhule, not satt. Houston had good years in 21-22. Top 25 offense each year with Shannon Dawson as OC. 15-17, 2021/2022 respectively.

If we look at DH time as OC he’s had top 10 offenses.

But as a consultant I’m curious what kind of impact he could have without calling plays.

Even still we might be successful just by changing the sequence of plays. Mav and others have brought up that we’ve had guys wide open. But one thing I believe is that in order for play action to work, you have to at least appear like you’re committed to the run. Pass, pass play action, or play action to start a drive doesn’t make any sense unless you’ve been shown to run the ball.

That was my point.

I actually like Holgorson.  I think he is a really good offensive mind.  Run the Ball guy might not be happy.

I just think it's interesting that a lot of people want to point how that Satt was a bad hire in the first place because of how he did at he previous spot.  But that apparently doesn't apply here.

I think in general we just want something different.  I don't read a lot into Houston as HC.  I think we are seeing more an more that HC is having a hard time being a football guy all over the country.

I think it's fair to call out his style.  Would it even work in the B1G?  His powerhouse years he was stacked with NFL talent.
