I think Thad randle was around 250 in hs. 250 can easily become 280-300 with a college nutrition and strength and conditioning. You can get a steal if u can project an undersized high school lineman with some talent.

Thats all well and good. And I agree with you. My question is this, what about our interior Dline play gives us the impression that we don't need help right now. Projects are nice for end of the class fillers but I think we need instant help.

If 6 foot can put on 40 to 50 pounds then 6'5 can easily hold that and stay quick. I am not saying he can't play d end. But it is very reasonable to recruit a 6'5 245 d tackle and expect him to play at 280-290.

We aren't good enough yet, or in the right region to not recruit projects. There is a very few d lineman in the nation ready to play out of high school. Yes, even 4 and 5 star tackles sometimes struggle to make an immediate impact. I think projects or jucos are the best route for us. Until we win big and can steal an elite d tackle.

Yup. Plenty of kids have put on 40-50 pounds between their junior year of high school and their second year of college. And we cannot afford to sacrifice good prospects for the future in the hope that we'll somehow find someone ready to go right now. That was one of the mistakes Callahan made.
