Defensive game plan for CU

Which Coz defense do you think will show up on Friday? The aggressive, blitzing plan we saw against Texas and KSU or the lay-back-and-let-them-have-their-way-with-you one we saw against every other team we played this year?

I think that if we come aggressively after CU, we can force Hawkins into some mistakes and keep them under 400 yards.

damn, keep them under 400 years? that would be pretty good, eh? :lol:

this is coz' last game as DC at NU. he can run whatever the hell he likes, for the last time.

 
Well, if Coz wants to show that he doesn't have $hit for brains he better show up with an aggressive defense. As you stated the game agianst KSU and Texas we were aggressive and if it werent for terrible offensive play calling in the 2nd half we would have beat TX. However, this team hasn't showed up once in a game that meant something this year. Unfortunately for us this game is the difference between getting 3 weeks more football practice or 3 more weeks added to our off-season. Don't be suprised if we see the same defense that showed up agianst KU, Missery and Ball St. :bang <_<

we need to be aggressive but not to predictable. dont blitz EVERY down. but we have nothing to lose on D. might as well go after them. we might get burnt, but we might get some turn overs too. plus its not like we wont get burned if we dont play aggressive.

Totally agree, regardless of what kind of defense we play we are going to give up more than 500 yds. We might as well give ourselves a chance of creating stupid mistakes and turnovers while we are getting torched for big yardage.

 
Does anyone really believe that Coz is going to prepare his best defensive gameplan? He has no reason to prepare anything for Colorado, so I wouldn't be shocked to see him play prevent defense for 4 quarters. The players are our only hope, which is also a scary thought at this point. He could help himself find another job, but who would hire him to coach after this season?

 
Ultimately I just don't think that CU's passing offense is capable of winning the game. If we can shut down the run, we should be fine.

 
When CU looks at game film, no doubt they will run the ball up the middle, to the left, to the right, and misdirections all day. Toss in a few play action passes, some post routes, and mismatches with their TEs inside the red zone.

Game plan for NU should always be - Dominate the line of scrimage, attack the ball, and swarm tackle.

Just havent seen NU stop a running game yet.

Considering we havent been able to shut down the run all year, we could be in real trouble. Especially if Hawkins decides to run simple counters and traps. The slightest mis-direction play and the defense will have the facial look of Rashad Caldwell. :o

boy, that's no sh#t! 300 yards on the ground!

 
First thing that needs to be done is to stuff Charles at the line from the start. Keep the guy under 100 yards and they lose since they rely on the success of their running game to keep the linebackers from dropping into the short zones to take away the little dink and dunk play action crap they like to throw once the running game is established.

I wouldn't recommend a steady diet of blitzing either. Too much of that and Colorado will pick you apart with the short stuff for 5-10 yards a pop.

Put them in 3rd and long situations as much as possible since their 3rd down efficiency is pretty poor. You stuff the run and take away the short crap to their receivers and they're going to be hurting. Not too impressed with their long-ball capabilities but the short stuff and yards after the catch can and will hurt if you let them get that ground game going.

 
There is one way to play defense, and that is to attack. You dictate to the offense what they can do, not the other way around.

It took McBride years and years to figure that out. Once he did, we had the Blackshirts of the 90s, and all the havoc they wrought on opponents.

We did a bit of that against Texas and a lot more against KSU. The recipe is simple in scope, but detailed in action.

I just wish we would have been doing this all year. Every single game could have been much, much different.

not really, because when you do that you take chances and allow a lot of big plays. several times we crowded everyone up on the line and allowed opponents to break off big gains.

attack yes, but playing positions and manning the gaps (and over pursuit) has been our problem in stopping the run.
