Defensive Line Formation

Correct me if I am wrong.....but didn't Martin line up at end and Meredith at DT??

All we need is for someone to get a push....just one person and it causes havoc. Hopefully, martin is the guy.

I know it was only Idaho State, but it was nice to see Martin getting into the backfield so often.

I don't usually like to call players out. It is and always will be my opionion that they are out there living the dream. If they are not good enough to cut it, that is a coaching decision, and therefore not the players fault. That being said, there are still a couple of personnel changes I would like to see on defense.

Its my understanding the defense is running a hybrid 4-3/3-4 with Martin being the swing LB/DE. I honestly have wondered why it took so long to us Martin as the tweener he is.

ya, that was during the 3-4 when he was blitzing (which seemed like every down, so its really just a shifting DE in a 4-3).

Last weekend wasnt a good measuring stick, its was d3 talent that hasnt won a road game in 3 years. If he can perform half that well against Wisky or tOSU linemen, i will be jumping up and down.

@WAHusker....I am with you. See, a game like Idaho state helps build some confidence......don't care what the score was. Just seeing those kids flying around made a difference. it just felt good to see them having fun again.

This is exactly what we have been doing. Most of the time, we had 3 of our linemen in the down position then had Caveman upright until he found a good spot to blitz at. About half the time, he would go to one end and then go down into a 3-point stance.

The kid is fun to watch though. He is the one D Lineman that we have that goes 100% on every play. That being the case, I am willing to live with any mistakes he might make. During 2 of his sacks, he made the OT look plain silly trying to block him. One of them, Caveman was 4 yards into the backfield before the OT was out of his stance.

Here's to hoping we see lots more of Eric Martin and send all of our guys 100 mph into Wisconsin's backfield. We could have a hayday if we hit them with a couple of safety blitzes.

I hope he can play under control some tho against a north-south running game of potential of Wisconsin's. His agression could hurt by getting him out of position and gashed in a hurry. Other than that though, he is flat-out getting the job done right now. What a shame he's a senior already.

Caveman is playing great and he's getting better and better each and every week. He is, by far, the most physical defensive lineman we have. I did see some technique things out of our defensive line that I didn't see in the past 3 games which was better as far as positioning themselves in concerned.

Does anyone have any insight into why we have heard nothing about Donovan Vestal this year? I've heard nothing about him being injured but he was not listed on the participation report but Walker Ashburn was. I know we will be counting on him for depth next year. Just curious if anyone has heard anything.
