Defining the "Liberal Media" and the "Mainstream Media"

Railing against "the liberal media" is a favorite pastime of Conservatives. But who, exactly, comprises "the liberal media?"

Use this thread to list all of the "liberal" media outlets, whether on TV, radio, internet, newspaper, whatever.

Thanks!

EDIT!

Here's part two of this! Another phrase I keep hearing is the "mainstream media." Often it's from Conservatives (again), and my most vivid recollection of this phrase is from Sarah Palin. She loved to gripe about the foibles of the "mainstream media."

Well, who is the "mainstream media?" Thanks again!

Agree, and as you've stated in multiple discussions, you're not a Conservative. So, while your use of "the liberal media" may have reminded me of my curiosity of this question, this thread isn't in response to you in particular. I'm genuinely curious who "the liberal media" is when it's referred to.
And drat - I forgot to add another question. Editing the OP!

MSNBC............varies...??

Come on........for years they have attempted to become the left's Fox.........just haven't succeeded in attracting enough audience.

I would agree with this. I've never heard them referred to as anything other than a leftist outlet. Are they at all moderate, or do they push a leftist agenda?

Don't really spend much time on their channel, but because of dismal ratings, others have told me that they have attempted to occasionally have a balancing moderate or conservative lately.

Perhaps to emulate Fox's token Juan Williams or Maura Liasson or in the past.........Bob Bechel.

Honestly, I don't watch TV news (haven't for years), but I've heard they've drifted more center than in the past. My baselines were going for clearly identifiable political leanings, but like I said, I don't watch it, so i could be completely wrong there.

Honestly....about the only national news network I watch is CNN and that's only shows like their morning show as I'm getting ready for work.

I have watched some Ajazera America and it's not as bad as some would make it out to be.

Everything I've ever come across from Breitbart has made it seem like the RT of the conservative movement. Or worse.

There's a certain, almost hysterical fanaticism that I simply do not think is duplicated in left-leaning outlets such as MJ or Vox. They are much closer to mainstream, but it seems to me that "the left" -- and let's dispense with the notion that the meaning of this term comes close to its general meaning in the world -- is mainstream. Meanwhile this is the type of drivel so typical of Breitbart and its ilk.

Things like LGBT rights, science undenial. Basic social welfare, etc. These range from the obvious to the unrevolutionary. And while I recognize that there are ideas and voices from the other side, I think they do their side discredit by treating every moderate or liberal outlet as anathema. While for example the prominent Vox writers sometimes loft soft barbs each other's way by referencing another one of their own articles critically, they do lack the ideological purity and naked agenda-peddling I see in many of these conservative outlets that hardly deserve to be called counterparts.

You can see why they'd do it. They're likely correct that their movement is a victim of the mainstream. Treating the other side as ideological propaganda that needs to be countered with its own. But it's so unbecoming. Just looking at TheBlaze's Latest, holy heck.

Regarding 24-hour cable news networks: they're pointless. Don't watch any of them. I mean, do people still watch these things? Why?!?

Breitbart has evolved into basically a pay for hire site.

Certainly they have always been conservative, but are now in the business of doing more than subjective reporting.

They are actively pushing an agenda and any Republican that doesn't fit their box is subject to withering and constant criticism.

As for Beck, he seems to have literally gone insane.

I follow Vox and twitter. It's hard not to notice them because they literally tweet a gazzilian articles a day.

It has amazed me how overtly liberal they have become. When I started reading them, I honestly thought they were situated pretty much in the center....well....not anymore.

I don't know if Vox has segued into a liberal bent, but I unfollowed them more than a year ago because they were flooding Twitter with their stuff, and half of it was nonsense. They seem to have wanted to be a "news outlet" first, got a website, and now they're trying to figure out who/what they are. Seems a bit bass-ackward to me.

I like Vox, but I wouldn't follow them on Twitter. For this election cycle I've had fun reading the sometimes opposing thoughts of Yglesias, Matthews, and Klein. Klein in particular is a thoughtful, good read. I think Matthews is the big Sanders stumper, and I find myself agreeing less with his articles.

I think they do a great job providing summaries of (left-leaning, to be fair) perspectives and they have some interesting stuff overall. It tends to be a gateway to other articles and discussions.

My favorite publication is the NYT. I've read both good and stupid things on Slate, Vox, et. al. I think there's a definite step up in quality with the NYT, which isn't to say they have an exclusive hold on it! And it's definitely good to get different takes. Sometimes they're all in alignment, sometimes not and nobody seems to really go on the warpath about it when those differences crop up.

As for Beck, he seems to have literally gone insane.
... is that a recent thing?

But yeah, I am a little concerned about him. Is he still fasting?
