Thread in Question

I'm asking because I'm not sure what to make of the feature we have of disapproving posts - when do we use it? What's the boundary line?

I look at this thread in particular because a user started it off by saying "he looks like a giant tool." Unnecessary, and I think there should be some consequence for that. A warning, a note in the thread, or a personal message, perhaps. But is it vulgar? Outrageous? I don't know. It's odd and it's rude - but it's nothing that would deserve an "Edited by Mod" line even. As a consequence of hiding this post, a lot of other OK posts that respond to it (i.e, "If by tool, you mean an item in which controls the line of scrimmage and pancakes the o-line....I agree with you. ") were hidden - and I just wonder if all this is necessary.

If it were a thread-derailing type of thing, I could see why, but despite that one senseless comment everything is still pretty on topic. I guess I'm just wondering if there are people who posted in it looking at that thinking, "What did I do wrong? Why are the mods hiding my posts?"

So - just what I thought of when I saw this thread. I think on signing day, I unapproved some posts in the Owa thread, although for the same reasons I never felt really confident about what I was doing...so if others could chime in and offer a clearer perspective, that would be great.

I wouldn't call someone a tool, but I also wouldn't I hide those posts. Calling someone a tool is pretty common. It's not a potty-mouth word. I wouldn't have done anything about that.

If I'm reading it correctly, he's talking about the recruit. While I'd prefer that recruits not be criticized unduly, I don't think this would rise to the level of any action on our part. I think the posts can be released.

Bumping this thread for some clarification.

The Hunter Dale thread is kind of down the same path. Nothing over the top but something about bashing on recruits doesn't seem to fit with what we want the discussion to be about. It went on for awhile in the Clinkscales thread and it eventually got locked.

Again, it's nothing terrible, but calling his actions absurd and questioning his character don't seem to the greatest things we could have.

Thoughts? Where is the line?

I would remind everyone that they could just as easily sway this kid completely away from Nebraska if he hasn't already decided to not commit to us. It's not too bad in there, just a few little things here and there.

COuldn't agree more......recruits, because we are free and open board, read this religiously. They can google their name and these threads pop up near the top.

That's the thing that makes me wary as well. Along with running down someone who isn't there to defend themselves.

Nothing that bad but probably not the greatest image either. Just didn't know where to draw the line.
