do you think neals dad overreacted?

What winner said sounds pretty good to me. And that is without knowing context and non-verbal communications that are extremely important.

Let's face it, Mattison was righ. You have to have a 4.0 GPA, top 10 in your class and an high act score in order to get accepted into Michigan. Neals only way to get into Michigan would be by a football scholarship and that's not saying Neal is dumb! A lot of smart people don't get accepted at UM. Regardless, I think neals dad misinterpreted how Mattison said it.
He might have been right, but you just don't say stuff like that in that situation. You don't know the family well enough to know exactly how they're going to react. Mattison probably thought he did, but he obviously didn't
And we don't know what was said. It could have been a sales pitch like Willie posted earlier that the family interpreted it differently.

I'd hate Michigan a lot less if I thought you guys hated Michigan enough. Overreact?

This whole conversation is missing the larger issue. Whatever was said, or how the Neals chose to interpret it, when they say "you cant get into Michigan without football" the answer should have been "duh" because football is the only reason we're talking about this kid.

The intersting thing is that this came from Mattison. As a coach under the old regime that gave up some of the worst performances in UM history, it seems incredibly short sighted and arrogant to show up repping the "Michigan" brand when the last 8 years are but a shadow of the historic success that UM is now using to recruit.
