Eichorst statement on Bo

Auburn hired an offensive guru who made SEC defenses look silly with his schemes. As far as I know we haven't changed our philosophies.
Would they have without their starting qb, all-american, 1st round offensive lineman, and a defense of freshman and 1st year starters?

Just look at it with a little perspective instead of pushing the "we suck" button all the time.

Depends on how zoomed in you are.

From August to January last season, there is an upward trend. There's not really any way to say otherwise.
And if we start this season equally as ugly as we did the 2013 season, but improve later in the season, we'll be able to cite another upward trend, yet we'll still be in the same place. Prior to the '13 season, there was a lot of hype and expectation about somehow finally getting over the 10-4 hump. But then things started off very flat and disappointing. If we do it again, yet manage to get better at the end and still end up with 9 wins, are we going to be having these exact same discussions next year? 'Cuz we were having a lot of these discussions last year too.

But then when you look at 2013's issues in regards to youth and injuries...............
...and then will we have more of these excuses, or will there be new ones? The excuses are the only things that have changed from year to year.

There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic and supportive, but there is a difference between hope and expectation. We can all hope as much as we want, but right now, I don't think it's safe to put the expectations too high.
Theyre not excuses. Theyre legit reasons. We had a defense full of redshirt freshman and 1st year starters. We lost our 4th year, returning conference player of the year QB for the season early. We lost our All-American Olineman midway through. But yeah, theyre excuses. Ok.

As far as putting the expectations too high. When Auburn can go from 3-9 to a minute away from a National Title, it's not out of realm to think such a jump can be made. And we werent 3-9 last year.
They're legit explanations for preseason ranked teams Georgia (top 10) and Florida (top 20).

It's only excuses for Nebraska.

To me it is apples to oranges in comparison.
Then why are you trying to compare them?

Uh, that's kind of the point of comparing things.

Apples are red or green. Oranges are orange. Apples have a thin skin. Oranges have a thick skin that shouldn't be eaten. etc. See, comparing.

Unless you meant trying to equate them.

I didn't say or imply we suck, you were mentioning Auburn's turn around and I mentioned why. Beck is pretty good but he's no Malzahn.

i am pretty confused by this. are you just upset those teams are ranked so high? or do you think we should be ranked that high with them? or do you think that other teams are held to different standards than nebraska, a team that has ended the season ranked lower than it began the season the past 4 years?

Are double standards hard to explain?

We had a 1st round OL? And actually what you described seems to be half the SEC every year. Don't hear Alabama, FSU, LSU crying about losing 10+ to the NFL every year. Well, they cry but reload. Hell, Missouri made the SEC championship without their starting QB. Wasn't a good enough excuse (to NU fans) for Georgia either when they lost the Gator bowl.

Regardless, none of these "excuses" are the reason behind our primary issue of becoming elite. TURNOVERS. Those are happening no matter what personnel we have on the field. No matter how senior our DBs are they aren't getting interceptions. No matter how senior our RBs and QBs are, they're still turning over the ball. Season, after season, after season. Doesn't matter if we have 12 future 1st rounders, we can't turn the ball over 5 times a game and win.

Very true. However, Gus has been perfecting his offense for almost 20 years. Beck's on year 4. I'd love to see us move more in that direction though.

i do not know. depends, i guess. seems like they are easier to imagine.

but i know i am fine with donu's ranking and am not concerned about uga's or uf's. we have given no reason to receive the benefit of the doubt and will have plenty of opportunities to prove ourselves pretty quickly with our schedule.

Spencer Long. Was an all-american guard in 2012. He was hurt for the year halfway through 2013.

Taylor Martinez was offensive player of the year in the Big10 by many in 2012. He was hurt for the year in 2013 early.

So that's what I'm asking. If Auburn loses their top 5 pick lineman AND their starting qb, would they still have been as good?

...by top 5, I'm guessing you mean top 78ish. those are on about the same level though...

Oh, I agree. Merely pointing it out is all.
