Eichorst statement on Bo

I'm being a smartass per usual, but that argument on this board just irks me. In the beginning you could have wondered how Nebraska football ever got so huge. Now though, considering we've established ourselves as an elite program, with the resources to do absolutely anything that anyone else in the country can do, dominating the top of the football world for the last 50 years....I would say it would be a lot harder to tear this university down into permanent mediocrity than it would be to build it back up to a National Championship contender.

15 years without a conference Championship makes you begin to wonder what direction we are trending. There will come a time when we've let it go too far, and it can't be brought back up. A passive attitude will start to take over. People will begin to accept things as they are and #9 wins will become normal. That's scary. You would think we could at least hang around in the top ten in the country once in a while. Maybe not have an epic meltdown each year.....that'd be a start.

Kinda what I'm getting at. The bar has been lowered for Bo to a point that no other coach who ever has donned the red pants for. Nebraska (please wear red pants next year Bo) has ever had the luxury of working under.

Bo has committed transgressions that Solich and Callahan committed. They lost their jobs.

Guess I'll try it a third time......

Eichorst says "we're lucky to have Bo".

Ok, fine. Does he mean it?

I'm asking you too, look at those teams I listed. Who do you think Nebraska, on it's historical level, should lose to on any given year? What coach couldn't beat those teams with Nebraska's resources?
You know NUPolo, EVERY game should be a win on our schedule, but to answer your question, All of those you listed should be outright wins. No excuse. I will get back to this later in my post as well.

Now when you speak "historic level", you do realize these past 15 years aren't close to being what we were, right? Even outside of Bo's tenure. I see everyone b!^@h and complain about Bo, but at least this guy has done things no other coach after TO has been able to do, with taking over a pile of crap. Sure, Callahan recruited good players, but those players also had to be recoached. Bo has at least won our division outright 3 times in a 6 year period. More than Callahan and Solich combined. Bo has also brought a level of consistency, something neither of them were able to do. Sure you can bring up SOS, but lets not get blindsided here and really believe that our scheduling was much easier in the Big 12. When your EXPECTED to win the Big 12 North and fall short, what do you say to that? Bo won it twice in the 3 years he was there. Both CCG games were very competitive and came down to a few plays. Bo's fault? Sure, but it was more than just his, it was the players fault as well.

I believe we are lucky to have him here as well. For those things I spoke of, and more. I love the passion he has for this program, and its rubbing off on these kids. Each loss, turnover and mess up goes right back to the Head Coach. Is that fair? Not at all, but that is the way it is. I just don't get all the dislike for him. Many of our "blowout" losses, Bo has put kids in the right position to make plays (defensively). Now I am not saying EVERY play, but the majority of them. These kids need to be held to a higher level of accountability for their actions on the field. Maybe not by the coaches, maybe by the players themselves. What happened to players getting on each other for not sticking to the basics of football. Why did we lose most of our games? It wasn't the scheme (outside the Minnesota and Iowa game last year offensively), it was the fact these kids couldn't do the basics. They couldn't hold onto the ball. They couldn't tackle in the open field, or they were missing tackles in the backfield. It also doesn't help when your lineman are being held majority of the game! This is no excuse, go rewatch last years film and you will see it. You can coach and it teach it all you want, its up to those kids to put it together on the field.

Now you say, they should be pulled if they aren't doing their job! How many games do we win if we pull Armstrong after his fumbles? Abdullah? Hell, how many games do we win if we would have pulled Martinez?

2012 season was the only season where I believe players on the defense should have been pulled for true freshman to play and make the right cuts. Something that should be natural to those kids. Bo did take responsibility on not doing that.

Besides the defensive debacle in 2012, where I believe we were playing the best players, not most talented, what would you have done? Bo has played the players who needed to be on the field, despite the lack of basic fundamentals they were having. Not a single on of us know what goes on in practice after these games, or in the locker room to say these issues aren't being addressed, so I don't want to hear that, unless your a player or on the staff.

This year is personally my make it or break it year with Bo. Do we need to win a B1G title? No, but it sure would be nice. At least be competitive in the race, and not play to our opponents level.

Please, don't take this post as me being argumentative, or saying 9 wins is enough. I don't look at it as a 9 win plateau, I see it as a continuity of blowouts us pooping our pants on national TV . What I care about is the fashion its done in. The lack of competitiveness in some of these games.

Armstrong, Gregory, Mitchell, Stanton, Cross, Valentine, Newby, Darlington and Adams just to name a few who take pride in wearing these uniforms. They also bring a level of competitiveness that we really haven't had before.

With Lewis being here, I hope it brings a level of nastiness back to our OL as well.

These are also my opinions, nowhere near facts. I am not a part of this coaching staff, so its all hearsay.

All I'm saying is, giving Bo the out of "not having to win a conference championship" and still having a good year is a luxury no other coach since Devaney has had. Ever.

You put a lot of new faces, or fairly new faces in that little list. Maybe you're right....maybe it's the new guys that are getting it. Maybe they understand the commitment and drive it takes. I always hope these guys don't lose that respect for the history of this program. I feel like we've got a few that don't get it, and maybe recently graduated some.

I'd add Micheal Rose to your list.

I'm really curious to see this season. The talent level makes me believe will will be a top 15 program by seasons end, but our coaching staff makes me feel like we will find a way to over complicate, miscommunicate, or create unneeded adversity that derails the entire thing.

I don't think I ever said he didn't have to win one. But to win one, you need to improve in aspects of the game, right? Some things take time. Your only as good as the players you recruit. We look better on paper, and on film now, because Bo's most recent recruiting classes are on the field. The ones he was able to recruit after he was able to show what he can and wants to do on the field.

What? honestly?
Something wrong? Honestly. Please, tell me why I am wrong.

I knew I was forgetting someone. Gerry too! I want to put Bando on that list, but my disliking for him right now, doesn't allow that to happen. I think its the type of kids Bo CAN recruit now. Its like a "Look what I have done with what I have been able to work win. Imagine what I can do with even more talented kids (IE 2009 Defense)". These talented kids are buying what he is saying, and so are these coaches, like Warren. Future looks bright, but I am hesitant to "believe" again. I want to see it before I preach "we will go undefeated or 1 loss". Can we? Sure we can, but due to history, its not that promising.

Suh, Frazier, Crouch, Frost, Green, Wistrom, Peter, Peter, Helu, Crick, Steinkuhler, Steinkuhler, Burkhead, Ruud, Taylor........should I go on?

Guess I'll try it a third time......

I can't tell you if he means it, but he's right.
If you honestly think Nebraska can't do better, and that they'd absolutely do worse if Bo moved on....well, I guess that's just sad for you.
You could answer my question about the eight teams I mentioned too, by the way.

Oh polo you are always good for false dichotomies if nothing else.

We could do better, and we might not do worse with our next coach, and we are also lucky to have Bo Pelini. All of these things are true.
