Emmet Johnson in Transfer Portal

I see your values. I feel bad for you and your kids. I am not childish for thinking that this is wrong. College should be about more than just money. If that is what we teach our kids then we should not complain about us never turning the corner because players are playing for money rather than loyalty and belief in the program.

NFL is a job. College football should be about education, growth, and athletics. It is true, money ruins everything.
My kids also feel bad for me and themselves, thank you for the sympathies.

Wow that is one hell of a petty response. Stop drinking and go to bed.

As I posted a few days ago, don’t be surprised to see quite a few of these guys return. It could be a pure leverage/more money play.
I’m pretty sure the only way to renegotiate NIL with our collective is via the portal. Emmett was making something like $10k and Dowdell around $100-$150k. Sounds like he had to hit the portal to bump up his NIL. Can’t argue with that. (Maybe we change our NIL re/negotiation rules)

I know somebody that wants to argue with that…..

Welcome back from the coma. It is now late 2024 and there have been some drastic changes with CFB in the last few years. We’ll try to be patient while you get back up to speed.

Wonderful. Makes me feel so much better. I need to write a nice letter to the NCAA thanking them for this tremendous improvement to college football. Screw academics. Let’s focus on money because education, loyalty, and commitment mean nothing. No wonder team culture is crap. Every player are for themselves and the money.

I guess you were okay with it being all about the money when it was only old rich dudes in suits making it and not the ones who are actually doing the football.

It seems like everyone is attacking me because I refuse to agree that college football should not be about the money. Your response is flawed. What do old rich dudes in suits making money have anything to do with what I said.

I will give you an example and after that I will rest my case since I guess “I am in a coma” seems to be the funny part of the night.

Let us assume that EJ did all this as a plan to get more money and we give him more money. What is stopping Dowdell from doing the same, and then the next guy and so on. Where does it stop? Also, let us say EJ gets more money and Dowdell or any other player who entered the portal didn’t, what does that do to the morale of the other players. When the driver is money then let us stop calling them student athletes. Instead they are professional players who are using college to showcase their talent and academics have nothing to do with college football then. However, if that is the norm, and players are now getting paid then people shouldn’t use the “they are still teenagers” excuse when they don’t perform. You can’t have it both ways. You are either a student athlete getting an education while playing sports or you are a professional player getting money and should understand that you will be criticized when you underperform. Point is, when money becomes the driver, then Husker pride and tradition have no meaning. I still believe that you can’t buy loyalty. You are either a Husker through and through or a mercenary. I guess I would rather be in a coma until this s#!tshow improves. Or I will just focus on volleyball. At least I can feel Husker pride in that team.

Students go to college to learn and develop their skill sets before entering the job market. If you are good, then you will make the money and become an old rich dude in a suit. You should not sell out while you are in college.

Almost everything. You are whining about college football being about money being a new thing. It's always been about money. We get entertained, TV stations and schools make money. Now the players are getting a much more fair piece of the pie than before.

To the rest, why in the hell should we expect an 18-22 year old not sell out but all of the old people involved get loaded? That makes no sense. You are extremely naive. And the idea that we will get behind because players aren't loyal to us is laughable. It is working this way everywhere. To answer your question about what's to stop people coming and going constantly; they need to introduce contracts that will protect the employer also. Then when we have more players staying at schools, you can tell yourself it's because they're loyal and are here to get an education.

Let us agree to disagree. There is time to make money and there is time for growth and development. However, there is no convincing you. You already made up your mind and decided to revert to name calling and condescension. Have a good night. You are right. You are always right. I apologize for being naive. I will not make that mistake again. Please forgive my ignorance.

Who’s going to tell him? Okay I will… Our women’s volleyball team makes up 6 of the top 12 highest NIL earners for volleyball. Bunch of bump set spike mercenaries over there.

Any source available on the numbers you posted? I would be surprised if that position group would have such a disparity (10x) between two relatively equal players in terms of previous on-field production.

Compensation is a fluid process, though I suspect there are not mid-season negotiations. Probably for the best as game-to-game demand changes would be asking for trouble.

And we've had players leave, and cheered for them when their team visited... Not sure how that detail was missed.
