Ex-Nebraska QB Adrian Martinez says Kansas State is 'most talented squad' in career

I wish him the best.  He gave us all he had.  He was coached and allowed to play the way he did.  He had swiss cheese for a line.  AN OC who never developed a running game.  Had coaches who never helped him when he was struggling.  Would I be shocked if he tore it up there?  No.  Would I be shocked if he was average?  No.  But I think his environment, team, and coaches will determine it.  Just like it did while at Nebraska.

"I feel like this is the perfect opportunity for me to finally show that I can be all that my potential is, if that makes sense,” Martinez said this week on KC Sports Network. “You know, I feel really good about the attributes I have and my skill on the field. Now, let’s put it all together and gets some wins and let’s do this thing. I’m confident about that and this is the situation to do it. There’s some incredible pieces and incredible players on this team. Probably the most talented squad I’ve been able to be a part of and that gets me excited. I think it’s a great opportunity for me to take that next step.”

Hmmmmm….

I guess Wan’Dale wasn’t very talented. Same with Stanley Morgan.  I guess I better look more closely at their roster! Thoughts???
What was he supposed say?  "Oh, this team isn't very talented."  You're criticizing him for being a leader and boosting up his new team. It is beyond ridiculous to complain about his statement.

Adrian played his a$$ off for us through injury and I think a lot of our fans are about to realize he was covering up a lot of deficiencies and was not really part of the problem. Wish him nothing but success personally, even if I want to see K-State lose every game as a KU alum. Getting upset about some player speak on his new team is very silly.

I have nothing bad to say about AM. Sure there were some things that were on him, as there was with the OL and his QB coach. Hopefully he has more success with KSU, and I will be the first to pull for him.

Will be interesting to see how AM does at KSU. He's got some decent size shoes to fill when it comes to Skylar Thompson. Thompson was an NFL draft pick (7th Round), 16 TD to 4 INT over his last 300 pass attempts, Adrian 14 TD to 10 INT...Thompsons top two targets were a 5-7 return specialist and a 5-6 Running Back - where Adrian was throwing to NFL draft pick Toure and an NFL caliber TE in Austin Allen. Adrian has the edge on athleticism, but has also been banged up every season due to over use in the running game. Adrian will have a better OL and Running game but how will he fare with worse receiving targets? Will he be able to throw guys open and hit the smaller receivers/RBs in the flats with consistency?

I expect 2AM will play pretty well at KState.  Slightly less physical conference schedule as a whole and I think Martinez is an upgrade as a passer over Thompson while maybe not being quite the runner.  The main reason why I think 2AM does well is I think Chris Klieman is a pretty significant upgrade at HC over Frost and has a well established scheme.  Martinez is going to know exactly what's expected out of him and will be put in a position to succeed.  Klieman's teams generally do not beat themselves so I'll be interested to see if Martinez cuts down on his turnovers.

Side note, Duece Vaughn is Darren Sproles 2.0.  Man, he's so much fun to watch.

My thoughts exactly on the scheme.

He'll fit in with the "Klieman Offense" (really just the Snyder offense because Klieman is completely coasting off his coattails in every sense) very well because it plays to AM's strengths (option run game, play action shots) and doesn't ask him to do the things he struggles with (quick game and 3-step passing concepts) very much.
