Oscar says below that the kiss scene was improvised and he didn't know it was coming and neither did anyone else. I've been having these interviews pop up on YouTube and they're pretty good. A lot of them (and The Office Ladies podcast) talk about how Steve Carell did every take differently and improvised a lot.
