FB Christian Powell

Really can't afford to use a scholly on a guy like this with our small class. Sorry, just the truth.

And no offense to the FB position, as that's what I played back in the day, but we can get a pretty talented kid from Nebraska to walk on for that position. If I remember correctly it's been done a few times before ;)
+1000

Maybe they are thinkin about TE or DE for him, who knows. I agree though that we could get a walk-on from Nebraska for FB like Legate has been the last 4 yrs, which is why I think the coaches may be thinking a different position for him.

He also plays linebacker, he is a physical specimen and has the build of Eric Martin. He could be the next special teams star and he has great speed for his size. Beck wants the full back as a big play option. Plus lawler might come with him

i wonder if Beck doesn't have a different use for the fullback than what we are seeing currently. he might want to build a bigger piece of the gameplan around that position - and doesn't feel as though anyone on our current roster is up to snuff. if that's the case he wouldn't want to wait 3 years for a walk-on to develop.

Maybe but wouldn't Marrow fall into the talented option category? He will be eligible to play next season. I just don't get this one unless he is going to be a LB.

Im guessing he wants a fullback that can actually block. No offense to legate, but it seems like there were quite a few times where he couldnt make the block or find who to block. I still think part of the reason why burkhead played fb this year, other than for the dive, was because he w as our best fb on the team. Morrow will be a junior next year so im guessing this guy would be his replacement.

Scout: Something happened this weekend that is causing the Nebraska coaches to really turn up the heat on getting Powell to commit. No idea what this is. But I know coaches are in home tonight to try to land this guy.

Can this kid all of a sudden play another position or something? Or is someone planning on transferring...

From the way I read the teaser, it sounded like there is going to be a transfer. They're telling this kid he would have a chance to start early. Mike Marrow has been doing really well in practice and is expected to contribute next year BIG TIME, but I think he will be a big bruiser RB and a FB.... so they'll need another FB to come step in.

to send both Bo and Ron out there means they are pushing hard. With Rex in his last year, I wouldn't mind seeing a 250 pound guarentee out there on 3rd and 2. Talk about demoralizing a defense - give this guy 8 carries a game in short yardage situations.

I wouldnt mind seeing it either, but with such a small class we have more pressing needs that need to be filled. We also have Mike Marrow who will be playing that role for a couple of years.

he'll be a junior though - this is the class that we should be recruiting to replace him. if we wait another year we'll likely be counting on a redshirt freshman in 2014. not that the fullback position is rocket science, but it would be nice to not have to count on a rFR.

i am still betting there ends up being room in this class when it's all said and done. we alway swing and miss late - and end up with guys like Marsh. I'd take this guy over someone like Shoff.

Playing fullback is not rocket science, we shouldnt have to recruit a big time fullback we have done well over the past couple of years with a walk-on FB. But you do make a good point, if we swing and miss we should take him since he can play a number of positions, and yeah Powell before Shoff.

I'm guessing Beck wants to do something more with fullback than what we've been able to do the past couple of years... my guess is blocking.
