First Debate: Wagers

The Trump/Biden election is for all practical purposes is over.  While Biden had the substance he showed he is not up to the job. Trump is a complete fraud and lier and should not be near the WH. I hope  the Bidens and their team reconsider and Joe releases his delegates for the good of the country. That would be a heroic act and an act of political courage to do so.  One name thrown around was Michigan governor Whitmer  but I’m sure there are others besides Newsom of California. 
May the Trump vs ? Begin soon.

I've been vehemently against Biden dropping out - the negatives to doing so are massive. There is no candidate that can unite the coalition of Democrats. 

Harris is probably a worse candidate than Biden. Buttigeg is an effective communicator but he's gay and would lose. Newsome? Brings nothing to the table. Whitmer is a woman, she would lose. I can't think of a candidate that can bring the coalition together and win. 

At the same time, this debate was such a disaster of epic proportions that Democrats need to rally and find somebody else. They have a few weeks, tops, to find a candidate and rally around them. IF they decide to stick with Biden, they should avoid future debates at all costs.

I think it would have to be Newsom. 
 

But, if it’s Trump or Biden….I have to look at the people around them that are going to have major power to run the country.  With that, Biden wins hands down. Trump had his wacko crime ring with him before.

I trust Biden's cabinet and appointees to our political institutions to uphold American values and fight for policy that is helpful rather than harmful. You make a good point about the threat of Trump's crime ring. 

My best guess for an alternative option is Gretchen Whitmer. This is a massive gamble compared to Newsom, because nominating a woman shrinks the map - Democrats would concede Georgia, Arizona, and whatever faint hopes they had of North Carolina to Trump. But they could fortify the "Blue Wall" in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. She may just be able to get an electoral college victory. Her odds of winning are probably 20%?

Newsom allows them to battle for a similar map that they have now, he'd be competitive in each swing state. His weakness, in contrast to Whitmer, is that he doesn't strengthen any of the map. While I don't think he outright concedes any state, he runs the risk of narrowly losing each of them.

About halfway through the debate predictit.org jumped Newsome way up...but as of this morning he fell back again.  So it must have just be a quick overreaction.

I have to admit, if you golf and you are a guy...it is so hard to believe anyone that you don't like when they are discuss their golf game.
