While digging a garden, a man unearthed a large metal box filled with money and jewelry. For five years he spent none of the money and told no one what he had found. Then he suddenly bought a new house, a new car and many other things he had always wanted. Why?

He had an epiphany or elephant im not sure which.

No he had notified the local constabulary about the find and they had finally told him no one had claimed to have lost/buried the valuables :thumbs

 
or he had looked high and low for the previous property owners and found out there were no surviving previous owners.
