The man became stranded on an island or location remote from civilization. While trying to survive, he started a garden. While digging in the garden, he uncovered the box with cash and jewels. However, he himself was not "discovered", rescued, or returned to civilization for another five years. At that time, he stated using the contents of the box to purchase things he wanted or needed????

While digging a garden, a man unearthed a large metal box filled with money and jewelry. For five years he spent none of the money and told no one what he had found. Then he suddenly bought a new house, a new car and many other things he had always wanted. Why?

 

The man had been shipwrecked. He found a pirate's treasure but was not rescued for five years.
