Gameday chat?

I'd like to repost this to keep it separate from the server move thread (and keep that on topic).

I actually like the idea of a chat. But make it for games/gameday only. It's so hard to track a live thread with 50 - 100+ people posting at the same time. By the time you write something and it refreshes, it could be a page or two back in the discussion. IMO, it's one of the (only) things that Scout.com did really with with their gameday functionality.
Personally, I'd love something like this (and super kudos if it's mobile friendly). How hard would it be to get something up and running for this season? Do you guys think it's worth it?

IP.Board has a chat client. It would integrate pretty easily and seamlessly, but there is a cost associated with it, of course. The current plans are:

5 Users Free

20 Users $10/six months

50 Users $15/six months

250 Users $40/six months

I would assume we'd have to have either the 50-user plan or the 250-user plan.

As for any other kind of chat program, I don't know. If I recall correctly, Landlord has long advocated (some might say "badgered us") for a chat program, and suggested a third-party program. I'm a tad leery of that option, however - first, there's integration/installation and any problems that might cause, and second, the fact that we can't be sure that a third party program wouldn't open up a security hole. But if someone more knowledgeable can offer up a suggestion, we'd be open to consideration. And perhaps Chad and Eric are fine with the added cost for using the IP.Chat program.

I think if we placed a disclaimer that the chat is not moderated but it's also not the Woodshed. The only thing I hated about it were some would just slam the players for bad play. Using vulgar language, etc. if we did do it, is there anyway we would have just one moderator on most of the time?

The cost is minimal. I doubt that will be an issue. Although Chad does hold the golden wallet.

I agree with Saunders when replying to threads on the board. Almost becomes pointless.

Let me text the big man and see.

For six months we could use if for recruiting season as well. Hell maybe we could have Mavric on there for his weekly recruiting news and notes and predictions for commits. :)

I think it's a great idea....especially for shift workers like me who get stuck behind the desk on game days. I also agree with Eric that things could get out of hand very fast if we don't have someone "keeping tabs" in the users. I would be willing to help out on the days I am working and the games are on.

sh#t sorry about the follow through.

We can go ahead with this. A few things: as of now let's just do this for the 3-4 hours the game is on, don't let people curse/rip players, and once every quarter of the game send a link for huskernation.com😀

I think this will be cool to use during the national champ game (regardless of who it is) and national signing day.

Is this like a ICQ or other instant message thingie???

I find it easier to stay humble by showing my ignorance occasionally

Awesome! I should be able to make alot of the games to help except the ones I have to MC for the alumni group. Is there a place we can test it before it goes live? Also, if we can auto filter profanity like we do the board, I think it would be great to have for all the games. Even if it's 5-10 people, it might help keep people connected on gamedays, or for the weeknight games.

So, are we good to go ahead with the install? Just want to be sure before I click the button.

As to functionality that's been discussed - I can't answer that. I assume we can shut it off when we want. No idea about the monitoring. There doesn't seem to be a wealth of information on the IP site. They do offer a free, 5-person demo, but that seems to be it.

The chats have been popular in the past, it's just the systems we used weren't very good.

Sure go ahead with it. $40 for six months. We can do that.

Chat is up and running. Presently, it is restricted to just us. So, play with it and have some fun - learn how it works.

To start, click Chat from the list on the black line near the top of any page - the one that has the Schedule, Husker Watch Sites, etc.

From what I can tell, the mod tools don't appear until regular members log in. We're all exempt form moderation. If one of us has a sock account, I can enable members and we can test it with that account.
