Games vs. Texas

I'll continue to believe that when you are persistently close, but can't get it done................it's largely mental.....
This. How many times did we see Nebraska have a lead in the late innings, but some gaffe started off a torrent of errors, runs, and eventually what lead we had evaporated. We're already seeing it this year, the USC game, two of the three Texass games...games where either we had the lead and blew it, or we were in it but just appeared to give up.

If Coach Erstad can't get his hands around the mental issues surrounding this club, it's going to make for a *long* season, pitching prowess and clutch hitting be damned.

I suppose, though, we should expect things to get worse before they get better. Andersen did us no favors, and it may take another year or more for Erstad to undo the damage.

^^^ This, I like everything Mathew said above. We have shown we can play with the big boys but we need to believe we can beat them. I'm sure the players are pressing. They need a win. Baby steps might be the biggest part of this years non-conferance.

New Mexico is next and i hope we can take 2/3 but i would not be surprised if we lost 2. It appears New Mexico has very good bats and have high scoring losses. They could put 6+ up against us each game

Our Pythagorean winning percentage is 0.120. It would be nice to be able to say we got unlucky the last two weekends by not even stealing one....but we can't.

much of our issue that i see is pitching. especially relief appearances and when is the decision to be made to pull a pitcher. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but maybe early in this season the staff needs to take a bit more of a conservative approach. it looks at times our hitting is good and i think we have the talent to hit the ball consistently, but that is just it, it hasnt been consistent. I really thought friday and saturday were prime examples of games this club should have won.But a mistake here and there like hacker said blows the flood gates open. Mistakes are going to happen i get that. But its what you do with those mistakes. Letting a pitcher walk 4 in a row is uncalled for late it a game. Especially when if i remember correctly we had 0-2 counts on a couple of them. Not acceptable. I think these guys will push through and maybe a few games at home will help them get their mojo... lets hope

I was there for the Saturday game. It was a heck of a game. Our starter was struggling until we got guys up in the bullpen and then he threw 4 K's in a row. Once the bullpen came it was trouble.
