There really is so many ways this game can go. You think one way, and then it can go the other. But, that’s what happens during bowl week. You have an extended layoff and you play an unfamiliar opponent.
You could possibly think Nebraska is going to be prime, considering all that’s happened with the coaching situation, for a huge victory. Or because of the coaching situation the Huskers are going to be totally unprepared and get their sh#t handed to them.
You could possibly think Nebraska is going to crush the Spartans because Smoker can’t move around and that plays into the hands of the Blackshirts. Or State is going to control the line, forcing NU to blitz, therefore giving “pass happy” a new meaning.
Or State, ranked 11th in the Big 10 in pass D, will be very susceptible to the “Lord long ball” which has played a vital part in NU’s offense. And if you add the half a dozen or so the offense missed, this number would almost scare Jenna Jameson as much if faced with a couple of 12 inchers. Lord does have scoring tosses of 44, 43, 48, 58 and 77 yards this season - accounting for 24 percent of his yardage through the air. He may not be much on a 10-yard crossing route, but, as MSU has seen on film, he can throw the bomb with touch.
Yeah there was a scuffle or fight, but if you ask me it was a bunch of players trying to create a buzz about a middle of the road bowl game. Nobody outside of Nebraska or East Lansing cares much for the game which is the way most of these bowl games go. Super D came to the rescue and put some reality to this “brawl” that could be compared to a couple women chirping at each other. "I feel like (the response) will be done on the field," Williams said. "You can go to a pep rally, but I think the talking will be done when you put on your chin straps and your mouthpiece for the game."
I also believe its imperative we play some of those younger guys. Of course the main one must be Joe Dailey. Nebraska will start eight sophomores Monday night. Four others likely will play in the 8 p.m. game at the Alamo Dome. Nebraska certainly has hope for the future. I think regardless of what happens Nebraska will have a solid recruiting class this year. Things, I strongly believe, are moving in the right direction.
And another thing, lets not get our feathers ruffled about Solich and what he did. All the stories coming out about him now are all hearsay. He was fired because the football team struggled, or at least that’s what Pederson believes, but for some of these people who are bringing up stories about what he did when he was at Southeast coaching high school is just lame. Maybe it did happen, but that was 30 years ago!!!!!!
As I said, not many people care for this game. But we do. I don’t give a sh#t if we were playing in the toilet bowl, I would watch, cheer, drink and scream at the TV as I always do. Michigan St. is from the Big 10. As many yards as Smoker has thrown for, he has had some poor games. Maybe not so much him, but his team. State lost to several poor teams including La Tech. They had close games against Western Michigan and escaped a pourous Notre Dame team. They closed out their regular season with three loses in their last four. Blown out by Wisconsin, who does similar things as Nebraska. Nebraska has gotten their sh#t tossed by teams with a very mobile QB and that is what sticks out to me. Smoker can’t move. I don’t think he has seen the multiple blitz packages that are revving up to rip him.
