Gun Control

Ban abortions.....that's yout solution to solving gun violence?

we've gotta fix the culture dude!

but like. not the part of the culture that is infatuated with our guns. that's just crazy. we need our guns!

all the other parts of the culture. those parts. we have to fix those!

reduce the amount of extreme violence young kids see via movies, music and video games would be another good start.
So, we *must* preserve the blissful liberty that is gun ownership, but ... let's censor media because citizens can't be trusted to know any better without government-directed programming?

#freedom

I know people are arguing about what laws could or couldn't have stopped this specific incident, but that's not really the point. It's more about curbing overall violence, which happens to be prominently in large cities. That's the most impactful step IMO.

Also, after talking with some a guy at work who has a brother who's a Florida LEO, and doing some reading myself, it seems the shooter was fairly qualified as far as his credentials. Like, he had a security clearance, and worked for one of the largest security contractors in the country. From what it sounds like, he would have had about as much trouble getting a gun under any new laws as a cop would have. I've said before I'm not a fan of using the no-fly list to restrict freedoms, but for this guy to be watched as he was in the past by the FBI, and still be employed by a company that does things like guard nuclear power pants seems crazy. Somebody at the FBI screwed up.

I did a study on that on college. There's no casual link between those and violent behavior.
Really?

http://psychcentral.com/news/2008/11/20/media-violence-linked-to-aggression/3379.html

The research, to be published in February 2009 in the Journal of Youth and Adolescence, shows that even when other factors are considered, such as academic skills, encounters with community violence, or emotional problems, “childhood and adolescent violent media preferences contributed significantly to the prediction of violence and general aggression” in the study subjects.

Like I said, there is no established causal link. Not gonna derail the thread any more than it has been.
