Happy with the Ad

The man was a individual who worked for the emergency broadcasting unit.  The tape he handed to the TV station was a way for him to run a test of there emergency system.  The ad itself would be a standard emergency signal that all stations used.  The reason for the exact time would be so that guy would know for sure that the system worked and he could go back to any other duties that he may have to be doing.

Was the add the test pattern or part of the test pattern?

Bought time in a different time zone?

Maybe the ad came on right after the test pattern.  It did not say that he turned off the TV exactly after the test pattern.

He is blind so he has to tune into the correct channel?

Was the time (1 minute) significant?

Was the sound significant?

Was the ad placed in hopes of making a political statement?

Was the ad placed in hopes of increasing viewership of the program that followed?

Was the ad placed to cause people to adjust their televisions to a different channel so as to avoid effective air time of a political opponent?

Was the person who placed the ad running in the mayoral election?

Is the following the solution: the man was running as mayor. His opponent was running air time (another ad?), and the man wanted to run a test pattern to cause people to change to a different channel?

CONGRATULATIONS Silent Commit!

 

A man went to a TV station and bought one minute’s worth of advertising time. He handed a videocassette to the station manager and learned to the second exactly when his one-minute tape would be on the station. Just before the scheduled time, the man turned on his TV set, tuned in to the correct channel and waited. At exactly the time for ad, a test pattern came on. The sound, an intense pure tone, did not change for a full minute. The picture stayed the same too. Then the man, pleased, turned off his TV set. Explain.

 

The man was a political candidate running for local office. Tipped off that his rival had bought a 30-minute infomercial time slot, he bought the minute just before it and broadcast a test pattern, hoping to induce TV viewers not to continue watching that particular channel.
