HB Tone

I've quoted the last two posts of your link: (Before these, 1989husker had called Martinez garbage)

I agree with you Saunders but in the same breath, you are allowing posters to make up names for administration officials. What's bad for one should be bad for the others.
As of now, my understanding is that we only really have a standing rule against trashing players like that. I agree that the stupid names need to go, but it's gonna get some people mad who do the same for current and past coaches too. Either way, it's all childish, and IMO, needs to stop. I'll bring it up with the mod team.
As for name-calling of the UNL officials, perhaps we should clearly spell out that UNL officials are part of the Husker admin hierarchy. We don't allow people to trash talk our Husker coaches, do we? Since Eichost is Riley's boss, and Perlman was Eichorst's boss, we shouldn't allow trash-talking of Perlman or Eichorst either. Right?

Yes?

I guess I don't have a big issue with the made-up names. I think most of the time they're more meant to be funny than derogatory.

And it's another thing with where do you draw the line? Are we allowed to make fun of former employees (Pederhorst (is that former or current?), Calla-whatever, Pellllllini) but not current ones? I tend to think if they're not being slanderous, it's better to let it roll a bit.

I understand where some people can get frustrated. But if there aren't any differing opinions, it's going to be pretty boring around here. And most of the people who complain about other posters are the people who have to try to argue with them on every point.
Yeah, you're right. And no matter what rule HB makes or action taken, there will be some who are just bound and determined to be unhappy about it. A little bit like *real* life, huh?

It's a tricky line between censorship, and anarchy. I'm 100% against trashing players, but I find it hypocritical that some the of people against bashing Perlman/Eichorst had zero issue doing it to Bo. IMO, we need a consistent approach to how we apply the rule.

You guys talk it through, I've always been about protecting players. The adults (e.g. Eichorst, Riley, coaches) I felt are fair game, but not to the point where it's constant, cursing, etc.

Even though I agree with some of the stuff CM says, he's just so bad at how he does it that it's becoming super annoying. IMO, him and RDR need a Mod preview timeout or something. They're arguing with everybody about everything.

Good calls. I go back and forth on clamping down on tone. It surprises me sometimes, but people will carry with them and remember that little thing for which they got a warning years ago. I don't want to have members turn into bitter "Why aren't you punishing *that* guy for *that* thing" the rest of the way -- it's awfully unproductive. Although we'll always have to put up with some measure of grousing, and clearly some members get far out of hand before we do anything about them.

Overall I'd rather set the expectation that people just need to learn to deal with each other online, than have everyone watching each other like hawks trying to ensure equal actions get equal punishment. If we have to talk to someone over and over about being unable to comport themselves here, at that point stepping in is necessary.

This right here.

Agree with Mav and Zoogs. My feeling is that the student-athletes are, despite arguments to the contrary, kids that are giving it their all. Coaches, administration, etc. - those are fair game. They are adults, they accepted a job, they knew the consequences. Yes, the same arguments can be made for the players, but in my mind their grant-in-aid hardly qualifies to the same degree as people making hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars. More importantly, it becomes too difficult to police. And to zoogs' point - this is life. Deal with it. If you don't like it, leave.

And as an aside, I think HuskerShark is another that is pushing the boundaries with his constantly demeaning and superior attitude. I think someone mentioned it in a thread, and he seems to have cleaned it up slightly, but his digs are getting tiresome. If he returns to it, he needs to be "counseled".

OK. So admittedly I'm a bit more laissez faire than some.

I was most of two days behind on viewing threads in the Football forum. And I went through it pretty quickly.

But if I had to pick out a poster who was stirring the pot, I'd go with 1995 Redux. It's like he thinks it's his personal mission to mock cm husker on most every post and then copy it to the Derp thread in the Shed. In all that time, I really didn't see anything from cm that I thought was even remotely out of line.

Obviously I've moved some of RDR's posts but I think (hope) we're on the right track with him with all the PMs. I think he'll either straighten up or be gone in short order.

But I think Redux needs to be told to knock it off. If I see another post from him like that I will. I really think that's what gets things inflamed. People have it in their head that those guys a trolling. And they do push the envelope here and there. But now people aren't giving them much of a chance. And others start mocking them even if they have a decent post and that's when things get out of hand.

Methinks a few well-timed posts and PMs will go a long ways towards calming things down.

Good call.Redux does seem to push the buttons and seems like the instigator even when guys like CM are trying to make a good point.

After reading though the threads & status updates, it sure seems like there's alot of angst regarding CM and his follower RDR. IMO, they're headed down the same path as Polo towards pissing off the majority of the board. The difference is, they don't have the large amount of followers like he did. It's getting to the point that even when they do say something that's good, people are jumping on them just because of who said it.

I PM'd Redux about this already. It seemed like he gets it. We will see. Here is our conversation.

Hey 1995 Redux,

I have been getting a series of complaints regarding the tone of your posts on the board. While monitoring your recent posts, two things have become obvious. First, your approach to most, when you disagree, is to be defensive and confrontational, and second, you are not alone. I have noticed the level of personal attacks on this board has increased, so I am directing this response to a number of offenders (be assured you will not be the sole recipient of this message). The board rules are in place for a reason. This board exists as an outline for Husker fans to get information about, share knowledge of, and celebrate the Huskers. Trolling and personal attacks on members violate board rules and will result in suspensions and bans.

This is a formal invitation to return to more civil correspondence while addressing others on this board. If you feel others have violated board rules, feel free to direct specific posts to the attention of the mod team. If you are irritated by a specific member's posting style or viewpoint, try to contribute to the discussion with your viewpoint in a positive way, or simply use the ignore function or do not read threads or posts that include the member.

I would recommend that you start by reviewing the board rules. Let me know if you have questions.

While I'm sure I'm not being singled out, I would rather just take a leave of absence instead of getting fully banned. That's not me saying I can't condone myself in a polite manner

I can converse very easily with those who hold opposing viewpoints from my own, but getting talked down to gets old really quick and it's been this way for the better part of 2 months. I've already placed one of the problems on ignore, the other I can't because the discussion in the threads would make no sense since he is in every one turning it into a Solich support group/Riley is awful thread.

Understand, I love this board. It seriously has been some of the most fun I have had discussing the Huskers and other various topics in the last 3 years. So, I don't want to get banned. I'll be back when the place turns more civil.

1995 Redux, I am nowhere near thinking you should be banned, so you do not have to become less active on the board for that reason. The real issue is several other members have developed a pattern of negative posting (which I am addressing with them directly), and unforuntately, you have been one of the most confrontational in your responses. I get your view that you are merely retaliating, but I would prefer you to report a specific offensive post or PM me (or another mod) regarding a pattern of offensive behavior by any one member. This way the board can remain civil and a place where we can celebrate our Huskers.

I get it is the off-season, people are passionate about their views regarding the Huskers, and this is the internet. however, I would simply like to see HB be a site for avid Husker fans to share knowledge and excitement about our team.

Btw, personally, I view your additions to the board as a positive, so I am giving you a heads up about the current issue.

I get that, but honestly the last week or so I've been thinking exactly what you sent me originally. That it has been super unpleasant and I'm mostly just angry when I'm posting anymore. That's not what I come here for at all and I don't want anyone to view me that way either.

Guys, beautifully handled. A good discussion followed by a good course of action.

Let the comments by others go - they (including knapplc) have no idea what is happening behind the scenes and, frankly, reacting too quickly makes matters worse. I think the move by Redux (and I applaud him for recognizing the situation and his current state of mind) will help considerably, as well as the other discussions with members that have been occurring.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know how much your efforts and your patience are appreciated.
