Give the kids time. It's not love at first sight folks. It sure as hell wasn't for us this afternoon when we all found out. Well, maybe it was for tschu and knapp...
Gangwish was the one guy amidst all the positive player tweets this morning to complain about the e-mail announcement.Rich Kaipust @RKaipustOWH
Jack Gangwish said Riley 'told us a little bit what he’s about.' Of new situation, jr. DE said #Huskers 'just have to make the best of it'
Sigh. Unless the attitude of these players change, it's gonna be a rough few years for Riley until he weeds some of these players out of the program.
I really like that there were at least some players that stuck around after the meeting to talk. I like that most of our big name guys are there.
Mike Riley wasn't coaching NEBRASKA! He was coaching an historic dumpster fire of a program in Oregon State. In Riley's second season at Oregon State in 1998 - the Beavers went 5-6....that was their best record since 1971!Tom Fornelli @TomFornelli 2m2 minutes ago
Mike Riley had 4 seasons with 9 or more wins in 14 years at Oregon State. Bo Pelini had 7 in 7 at Nebraska.
All I got out of that is you're not a good gardenerThis hire may not work out for several reasons. First, just like a corn seed needs certain environmental elements to flourish so does a cornhusker coach. He needs available recruits who fit his system. He needs fan support. He needs local walk ons to fill in and be a true resource. Lets start with recruits. We know Mike will be recruiting a passing quarterback. But so is the rest of the country. The result? No advantage for Mike here. Now if we were going after a unique athlete to run a multiple option offense, like a Scott Frost, or a Tommy Frazier, well he might have more luck. But this will not be the case. Strike one, the seed is having a hard time breaking through an early crust. Secondly, husker fans boosters and future players are now accustomed to seeing Wisconsin play better "Nebraska" football than we do. Stifling defense, and a strong offensive line and running back eating your guts out. This is Nebraska football. If Mike were to put that product on the field husker fans would rejoice! Can you imagine putting up 627 yards on a hopelessy outmanned Wisconsin badger team in two years? That would be awesome, but alas, Mike will probly lead us down the west coast path again and he is no defensive guru. Strike two. Now the sprouting plant is turning yellow from lack of nutrients. Lastly Nebraska coaches can grow and produce hard nosed walk on kids to fill essential roles on the team. These kids are not super fast or five star kids. But you ask them to fit into a physical run first, play action pass offense or stifling 4-3 and they can do it. You ask them to get two steps separation on 3rd and 12 against a 5 star kid from Florida, well thats not gonna happen. Mikes system wont make the most of our local kids who are a big part of the championship teams. Strike three. The plant is completely curled, brown and done. Our long wait for the return of Husker football has just been made longer.

Uhhh, Mike has recruited passing QB's for a number of years now and has been able to get them to OSU. Those QB's have then gone to the NFL. You don't think he'll be able to recruit kids with the Nebraska name behind him? C'mon man. This hire may not work out for several reasons.
