HERIAN MIGHT PRACTICE!!!!!!

do bowl games count against eligibility?  could he play in the game and then apply for a medical hardship sense he was out for the intire regular season medically?  what would the difference be between herian playing only in the last game and octavian playing in the first game?
i seriously doubt that matt will play.  and i seriously doubt that he would be able to get into game shape before the 28th anyway.

i am glad to hear that he is going to be able to practice, maybe it is going to be on the scout team to get the defense prepared for MU's tight ends.

Yes bowl games count towards eligibility. The NCAA ruled that there was no longer a post season and that bowl games were part of the regular season.

I enjoy reading on this board, but man, this is messed up...does every single possible topic have to come back to the coaching staff and the hate some of you have for BC?
This was an interesting topic...Herian is coming back to practice...and of coarse it gets turned into a "BC sucks" topic.

This is great friggin' news! Our number #1 tight end will be in all the bowl and spring practices. We may have him back 100% by next season! We are playing MICHIGAN in a few weeks, and this team just put the smack down on CU...Seems like some of you need to get a life.

Get used to it. There's two who feel they have to find ways to pick and choose coaches quotes, news, and other board members topics for their own personal "Husker Bashing" agendas. I won't mention any names because you most likely will see those two in the near future.

 
NU notebook, 12/6: Callahan says Herian will ease back into practice

Those anticipating Nebraska tight end Matt Herian’s return to action next season received a positive report Monday.

Bill Callahan, speaking on the Big 12 coaches’ weekly teleconference, said he hopes that Herian can practice this month on a limited basis. The Huskers begin workouts in earnest Wednesday for the Dec. 28 Alamo Bowl.

“I’m optimistic that he’ll have some practice time on a low-scale level in terms of contact,” Callahan said.

Callahan said Herian probably will be limited to practicing in helmets and shorts, and not full pads. He won’t play in the bowl game.

“We’ll let him get the feel of the passing game and get a couple of reps,” Callahan said. “I really don’t want to bang him around. It’d be ludicrous for us to put pads on him and make him go full-throttle.”

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Herian, a senior from Pierce, continues to rehabilitate a fractured left leg suffered in October of 2004 against Missouri. He hasn’t practiced since the injury occurred. After missing all of spring practice, he underwent a second surgery in April.

Before his injury, Herian caught 24 passes for 308 yards and three touchdowns. His 24 receptions were the most for a Husker tight end in 14 seasons.

“We’ll let him go through the passing drills this month if he’s capable of doing that,” Callahan said. “We hope he can get in the mix a little bit and get his competitiveness back up and increase his confidence. If not, then we’ll heed the trainers’ advice and allow him to rest and just assure ourselves of getting a fresh Matt Herian back when we start spring drills.”

Word is he has practiced with the team in the last two practices in half pads. Caught a few passes, trying to get a rythm back, etc. The team was excited to see him catch a few passes.
