As one of the new members to this team, I think this (bolded especially) is the sort of context that I don't really know much about, and it would be great if you could sort of expound on that a little. From my perspective, I haven't ever really seen an 'old way of doing things' and to me, as a new mod, you guys are all the 'Old Crew' and we're just the new kids that are getting to be a part of this. I include Mike in that group as well and regard him with the same respect as I'd regard the rest of you with - as crusty old farts the vets that have been around together for a long time (That's what I feel we have here, right now with the leadership team. We are going away from "dropping the hammer" immidiately on members. We must have a few patience and treat people with respect. We as a team are starting to understand that, I don't feel we are anywhere we need to be, but the more we focus on it the better results we will see. I don't feel Mike has the right temperment.

The way I've seen it is, as moderators we all share the same job description. How we go about doing it is just everyone's own style or preference and there've always been/will be different styles. In the short time I was around when all of this was first going down, I don't know if I got a chance to really feel this 'different direction' that we were moving into. I felt that Mike's problem was more with the fact that we were being steered in a direction and he felt too reigned in by that. I haven't felt reigned in at all, but just philosophically, I can sort of see where he's coming from. Mods shouldn't have to be given marching orders or team philosophy pep talks. On the other hand, the admin side of it is obviously right too: mods shouldn't be renegades, and we should be operating on the same page.
One thing I always hate to see on a message board is drama with the mods (or admins). So I'm always of the opinion that things should be mended if possible. I see this as a situation where Mike seems willing to give it a go; if you could find out directly from him that he's willing to work within the confines you are comfortable with, why not?
I want to stress though, that I'm only voicing a small opinion, and completely defer to this as your call. It's not something that I'm going to get upset about. The bottom line is that you've gotta be comfortable with the people you have as mods, and if you aren't, then that's that. But I think I have a hard time seeing this as a 'getting guys who fit the system' move, so much as a 'There's problems between Mike and Eric.' I respect and look up to both you guys, so I won't take sides. I just hate to see things like that and hope it can get worked out.
