I thought you meant it jumped to the top of the whole forum. I know there's a way to view HB so you just see new posts, I've just never done it, and I've never explored how.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I'm a man! I'm 40!!

No way, just 40??

Hope you had a good one knapp. X sent me a PM:

Hey Zoogies,

I thought I would follow up and let you know that a few minutes ago I contacted knapplc about my account status. Nothing further had been clarified by anyone about why my posts are being previewed, or at least continue to be previewed. As I told knapplc, my warning level was not increased and hasn't ever been increased as far as I know, so I'm hoping this is something that can be resolved.

Take it easy,

Husker_x
How should I reply?

He PMed me as well. This seems very disingenuous to me, since he can clearly see his warning level on his profile page and next to each of his posts. He knows very well that his warning level was increased, and when.

Regardless, I wrote him back to tell him that his warning level was increased, when, and why. I even sent him a copy of the post that got him his warning.

Here is the exchange:

Hey knapplc,

It's been several days now and I can't help but notice that my account is, for lack of a better term, still under surveillance. I writing to ask if this is going to be some kind of permanent situation. As my warning level was not increased and has to my knowledge never been increased, I'm hoping that isn't the case. It makes discussing topics in a timely fashion difficult, especially in the main forum where topics balloon really quickly.

I am more than happy to abide by any rules concerning language on the board. In the time I've been here I've seen many instances of swearing, yourself included, and no warnings were ever doled out. Even still, I'm willing to not use it in my posts at all, but I would like a clarification on what the actual rules are.

Best,

Husker_x

P.S. Happy Birthday!

Your warning level was increased. You have one of three strikes right now.

The situation is under discussion by the Mods and to ensure the decision is impartial I have removed myself from making the decision since we have been known to engage in spirited discussions together. We'll let you know ASAP what the decision is.

Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Thanks for the quick response.

Point of interest, when was the warning increased? From this incident? In your original PM to me, you wrote, "Stop testing the swearing filters. If I see it again, it's a warning." No profanity was used again. Was there something else?

Your warning was given at 10:11PM on 8/18/10 after this post:

I am not a fan of threads being locked and it happens all over, not just here. It smells of censorship and in my opinion...bad things happen when people are silenced. The mods can do whatever they deem appropriate, but just be careful with censoring is all.
For the record, none of the Mods are happy when threads are locked.
Oh bullsh#t. I saw the Dance Dance Revolution party going on after zoogies went Orwell on our asses. Don't deny it. You were there.

f#*k, I can't even say sh#t without getting f'ing censored on this f'ing board. a$$hole$ ........sh#t!

People have been banned for posts like this, within the past week.

Yeah, I was pretty sure if there was one that's what it would be, but your first PM didn't indicate there was one. Now it's clarified, so that's that.

By the way, the point wasn't to test the swearing filters. I already knew where they were. I was making fun of them. As I told zoogies when he PMed me shortly afterward, the post meant to be very, very sarcastic. It might not matter in the context of board policy, but the reason I used those particular words instead of others was that I knew that the censors would block them.

In the future I will simply make it my policy to not swear, regardless of whether or not it's commonplace on the board.

If you're implying that swearing is allowed by others, it's not. As often as we can we PM people about it, we just can't catch everything. When it's egregious people get a warning. You are not the first person nor even the most recent to receive an increase in their warning level over swearing outside the Shed.

To be honest I'm still not entirely clear on the policy. I know that you have sworn in your posts outside the shed (quoting me, haha, but it's in your post nonetheless). I read the board rules again and the policy states "No VULGAR Profanity"––emphasis in the original––which to me signifies describing sex acts, which I see is another pinned topic on the main forum. I've been around Huskerboard for something like three years and read more profanities and used more than I can remember. I always thought that because they were already censored, they weren't an issue, anymore than having a dozen bleeps on a TV show is going to call down the wrath of the FCC. This understanding or misunderstanding along with the lack of anyone saying anything about it is what led me to think I could parody the swear filter without calling down the ban hammer. Whoopsie-daisy!

Once again, I am thrilled to not swear if that's what board policy is. That was simply not my understanding. My apologies for the confusion and the (admittedly) taste-lacking post.

What I find most concerning about this is that he knows very well what he did, why he got warned, and that he was way out of bounds, and yet he continues to equivocate about it.

I guess what he's hanging onto is this. He thought it was a verbal warning only rather than an official one, while it turned out to be an official one along with moderation approval on his posts.

By the way, do members see their own warning levels?

Have him show you the PM I sent him where I told him to stop testing the swearing filters, including the time stamp. I sent that PM at 9:48 pm after reading this post:

Swearing Warning

He went on his tirade at 10:11 pm. Between 9:48 and 10:11 he made four separate posts. Here are those posts:

POST 1 - just after the Blue thread was unlocked.

POST 2

POST 3

POST 4

The final post was, of course, his tirade.

I gave him a verbal warning, and he responded with Post #4. I saw it and gave him a well-deserved warning.
