Huskerboard Email Accounts and Spam

AR Husker Fan

Team HuskerBoard
Folks, we're running into a problem with the Huskerboard email. Specifically, when people mark messages on their Huskerboard account as Spam, it results in mail servers thinking that the Spam is originating from the Huskerboard account and mail server, and is causing those servers to black mark the Huskerboard system. So, please, just delete those messages, and do not hit the Mark as Spam" button. Thanks!

I have them forwarded to Gmail but I'm not pressing spam on anything, I believe. Please shoot me an email if that's wrong -- anything that goes into spam must be happening automatically from Gmail.

I'm guessing that might be an issue; when Gmail flags it, it's not flagging the account that sent it to you - it's flagging the Huskerboard server that was the forwarder.

HM, OK. Well, if it is an issue, let Dave Stahr know that he can turn off forwarding for my account. I can live with gmail -- unfortunately, I'm not that willing to deal with a bigger setup than auto forwarding :/

The only emails I get are to the @mods group, which are forwarded to my gmail. 99% are spam, and gmail flags them by default. Is that a problem?

Checking now with Dave to fully understand this. In his email, he talked about users flagging messages as spam. I've asked whether "auto" flagging by the Gmail, Hotmail, etc. systems is also a problem. If it isn't (but I don't see how that could be), then all that needs to be done is to not hit the Mark as Spam or Flag as Spam or whatever your email system uses. But if it is a problem, there really isn't any option but to remove your personal accounts from the Mods/Admins distribution lists. The drawback to that, of course, is you no longer will get email addresses to the Mods or Admins accounts. I know that Chad, in particular, uses those to communicate to all of us. In fact, he notified all of us using those accounts the other day.

Having said that, however, we can then populate the Mods/Admins distribution lists with your Huskerboard email accounts. You can then access those accounts using the web interface or set up those accounts on your mobile devices. I don't know about Android, but iPhone makes it a cinch to have multiple email accounts and have it all funneled to a single "Inbox" (which really just displays all your accounts in one view).

Instructions for logging into the web interface or for setting up your Huskerboard email account on your phone can be found in THIS THREAD, which I'm going to add to the @ Useful/Reference Threads Collection thread, where zoogs had posted a link to an earlier thread with the same info.

Update - yes, when Gmail or Hotmail or whomever you use automatically sends forwarded Huskerboard email to the Spam folder, it contributes to the problem. What happens is that the forwarded email actually has a Huskerboard email - after all, the email is coming from Huskerboard's server and the Huskerboard server is the one that received the original email.

So, what I need to do is remove your personal accounts from the distribution lists. Also, if you set up forwarding in your account, you'll need to log in and remove that - I can't do that for you. You can then use the web interface or set up the "direct connection" email account on your mobile device.

I'll try and get the email accounts removed from the distribution lists and replace them with your Huskerboard email addresses. Again, ONLY your personal email accounts will be removed from the distribution lists. If you already use your Huskerboard account for the distribution list, no change is needed. Please check to make sure you didn't set up forwarding on your Huskerboard account; if you did, please remove it. Thanks!

OK, so I've had to email Dave yet again about a password reset. D'oh!

I'm actually happy with how Gmail takes care of things for me -- i.e, from just this morning:

The message "Hall Hatfield" from Hall Hatfield (subhash@mediajunction.in) contained a virus or a suspicious attachment. It was therefore not fetched from your account zoogies@huskerboard.com and has been left on the server.

So, once my password is reset I'll disconnect things, but please be advised that I'll be best reached via gmail. Sorry

No problem, zoogs.

By the way, I can now do password resets for the email accounts. If you don't hear from Dave after a while, just let me know.
