HuskerBoard Facebook Page

If you haven't seen it yet, THIS THREAD raises the question of why we don't have a Facebook page - and some members are offering to create one. They want some input from us.

I seem to recall that we batted this idea around a bit, but don't know what came of it. My concern is mentioned in the thead - any way to police it? Can we make it a closed group or something? And if we do, does that allow us to control it - delete comments and kick out people who make inappropriate comments?

If it isn't apparent, not only do I not own a cell phone, I don't have a Facebook account (no fainting, you kids).

Facebook offers control of the page for the page creator. We could make it so that only we control what goes on the page, so that not everyone could post stuff up there.

You should have a cell phone, Frank. But you don't need Facebook. I have a Facebook page - it's OK.

I don't mind either way. My thought is that HB is an anonymous message board, and facebook is most definitely not anonymous. Seems like a strange pairing, but some members seem enthused about it. Might not be a totally bad way to get the name out there, either.

I've already created one (its not published yet), but who's will to keep up on the content. We also have to consider that due to ad revenue, it's better if we bring them here than let them just get info and discuss things on there.

We wouldn't have to watch it, though. People couldn't post on it, it would just be a billboard that we put stuff on when we feel like it.

Not endorsing the idea, I'm just saying what's available. My church has a FB page, and we went through a discussion like this when they were thinking of making that page. It's just an advertising tool.

The question is, do we need it? I don't know that we do.

I’m on facebook at least once a day so I can help police a page if you guys want to make one up. Couldn’t one be made up and the login information made available to all the admin/mods here? I don’t think it is a bad idea but if people vote against I don’t think that is wrong either.

I'm always on FB so I would be more than glad to be an officer on it and help "police" it although FB doesn't usually need any of that. I'm all for it, plus I think it's a good way for people on HB to connect with one another. I know that I'm friends with people on other message boards that I have on FB and am friends with on a personal level now.
