Huskers JUCO haul in 2013

By no means am I stating we should rely on jucos but you have to commend the staff for the ones we got in this cycle.

A mammoth OT that should have 3 years to play. A heck of a pass rushing DE that could have been rated the number 1 overall JUCO player if he didn't get injured. Not to mention he also has 3 years to play. Lastly, a OG/C with a mean streak who is a 3 for 2 player. Chongo is needed with how much we lost on the interior line.

All three have the chance to make an immediate impact and be multi year starters.

The only wiff is missing on a JUCO DT. This hurts but at the same time I'm happy the staff didn't reach for a kid who might not be the right guy.

Overall, well done staff. Keep it up. 2-3 jucos a year is not a bad thing as long as they can step in and play right away.

Especially in a bigger class (at least for teams outside the $EC), grabbing a couple JUCOs makes sense. Particularly when our schedule the next couple years is favorable, take a little chance for some immediate help.

:restore2

Not too mention that it seems that MOST four year high school players take two years to get into a starting/contributing role. Doesn't bother me one bit ... again ... the right JUCO's. +1

Yep, if you're gonna take jucos the way we did it is how you wanna do it. Want those 3 year guys, 3/2 is good but 3/3 are total steals! We're making Snyder jealous this year. :)

The only thing that taking the JUCO O-line makes me question a little is coaching. I have never been a coach basher, nor understood the constant Barney hating. But I do think taking JUCO guys is a referendum on the failure to develop the potential talent that we have, or an admission that we didn't evaluate the O-line recruiting classes from the past very well. And unfortunately both of those do point back to Barney.

I am not a Barney fan but I don't think this points to him at all.

The coaches have a plan for personnel as to who fits where but they also have a plan for scholarships in general. By picking up a couple of 3-3 guys (or at least one) then they plug into the spots opened by Moore and Klatchko and keep things closer to the plan. Bo does have a "process" and this is just another part of it.

Alabama took a JUCO OT

Unexpected transfers (Moore) and guys not panning out. Happens on every team, I wouldnt read too much into it.

Evens out the classes.

Leave it to someone on the board to blame it on Barney.
Like I said I have never quite understood the Barney bashing, maybe I don't fully grasp how recruiting works, but my guess is the position coaches evaluate their positions, and if we are taking these JUCO o linemen then to me it means they either misread the talent they had previously recruited or haven't developed them, that goes back to the position coaches (i would be saying the same thing for any position we loaded up on juco guys) but as ez said if its just to even out the class from the 2 transfers we had I get it.
