Team HuskerBoard
Are we sure we want to allow members to post links to their boards / on line community sites in their signatures? I'm say we delete all of them, if they want link exchange we can create a links page. I don't know why, but this is the first time I've thought about it. Thoughts??

Yea, thats what I was getting at in my email. I think we are getting the short end of the stick with the current deal.

Was there an email? I probably read it but must have been preoccupied. Maybe I'm just reiterating your idea then. Okay, I confess, I stole you idea.

So Dave and I agree, screw the link exchange. Or at least no links in signatures unless they're authorized. When you think about it, we're degrading the value of our sponsors links by allowing random link exchange. What's to keep a sponsor from opening an account, placing an add in their sig, and posting all over the place, just to avoid paying the advertising rates. That's essentially what folks like HuskerSpot is doing....

Sorry for stealing your thoughts Dave, I can't promise it won't happen again :)

Yeah I checked this guys board out, we have one small link waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy at the bottom...

No link for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

get rid of it

haha, no, I wasn't trying to say you were stealing my idea. Great minds think alike! :)

If we're going to ban those kind of links, I think we need to do the following:

1. Change the board rules to ban links to other Husker discussion boards.

2. Be clear what's being banned - other Husker discussion boards. Not blogs or wikis.

3. Send a mass email to all board members informing them of the rule change, asking them to remove all such links, and informing them that we will be deleting them as we notice them.

4. Explain why we are doing it - that a lot of effort and money has gone into promoting HuskerBoard. We feel that having links to what amount to "rival" boards harms HuskerBoard, etc.
