Bingo.I don't have a problem with Polo expressing his view point in the threads that (on topic) debate is at hand but in every thread like "Bo Pelini positive achievements" shows that the intent is to get a rise out of people. There is not one person on this board who doesn't recognize that Bo has some short falls. Most of us hope like heck he can correct them or improve upon them greatly but a select few are resigned to spew out negativity irregardless of topic.
I will continue to pay my donations, get my seats and scream like hell. If Bo fails, I will do the same for the next guy. My loyalty is to the program and the kids fighting for it.
wjw...... The talk about beating Michigan wasn't about beating a 7 win team. It was about being the first team to win at the big house in 3 years. Then a few select posters (same ones as always) took that and ran with it, creating an argument that was never even said, and then tried to discredit it.Ultimately I believe that if you have to have a thread in which the "positives" of a coach are extolled, then there's probably a problem. Further, every fluff piece talking about progress is re posted here anyway.
The duplicity and then the attempt to mark a victory over a seven win Michigan team as something "major" not just "nice" snowballed, then of course we couldn't do without the snarky "Bo is so horrible" sarcasm so I decided to take a coach who was bad, but had positives in his tenure, and start that thread to illustrate a point.
who? That's another thing I find interesting. Think back to the defensive debacle against Wyoming to start the year. There was much talk about some of the same themes in the defensive debacles against Wisconsin and Georgia manifesting themselves in the game against Wyoming. But we weren't supposed to consider that since it's a whole new season, and last year has nothing to do with this year, by god.
Then at the same time, we're supposed to be impressed that we beat a piss poor Michigan team, not because of anything they did in 2013, really. But because of what they did the two years previous.
Note: I was impressed with beating a piss poor Michigan team in Michigan. I wasn't fully convinced that we would. I just find some of the mental acrobatics to deflect any sort of accountability away from Pelini to be, well, interesting.
There were differences among Wisky, Wyoming and Georgia......but this is an example of just piling on Pelini about it instead of seeing what is being done. First and foremost, we won two of the three games mentioned. But the defensive performance against Wisky in the CCG showed our talent deficiencies, especially on the defensive line. We had struggles against Wyoming on the defensive side of the football......but we had much improved talent that needed experience. And of course the turnover machine with his red zone turnovers.......There was much talk about some of the same themes in the defensive debacles against Wisconsin and Georgia manifesting themselves in the game against Wyoming. Got it.....my bad. I think Pelini has learned a lot and corrected issues using the rear view mirror. I guess it keeps internet chats going though.I think he was talking about Georgia Part 1.There were differences among Wisky, Wyoming and Georgia......but this is an example of just piling on Pelini about it instead of seeing what is being done. That 2001 Miami team almost lost to Boston College. It was something like 14-9 or something with BC driving and in the redzone with like 5 minutes left in the game when they had that interception returned for a TD by Reed.Ugh... Gosh why do we constantly get in these stupid scuffles.
Then we always talk about how each opposing view is "thoughtful and insightful". When the most "thoughtful and insightful" view is a sensible one, where there are positives and negatives to everything.
There are HUGE positives to Bo. If you think otherwise, then your view is obviously negative. There's a reason you dislike Bo. It's not even necessarily about the football, it could be about something he did. Maybe he didn't say Hi to you or something. Maybe you're overly pessimistic overall. You will never be happy with any coach if they are winning championships every single year, unless he's a personal friend of yours, or perhaps a family member. Either way, your view, is extreme and does not speak for any majority, except the few friends who agree with you. Maybe you don't understand the intricacies of football enough to know what you are talking about.
There are also HUGE negatives to Bo. If you think otherwise, than your view is overly positive. Maybe your a fan who views 9 wins as an extremely positive thing. Maybe your happy with just staying above .500 and as long as we win the games that you actually go to, you'll be happy. You are upset when we lose, but realize that we have always lost games and will always lose games no matter who the coach is. You're view is extreme if it is one that is all sunshine and lollipops. Maybe you don't understand the intricacies of football enough to know what you are talking about.
There is such a thing as a middle line. Understanding that losing lopsided games suck. They are embarrassing and we should never have to experience them against lesser competition. I also think we shouldn't even come close to having close games against an obvious weak competition.
The first time I ever experienced this sort of thing was during our glory years. Everyone talks about Wyoming this past year. Our defense wasn't there YET. If we played the kind of defense that we played later in the year, this game doesn't come close to the game we saw. Heck, we were up by 17 pts late in the game. So Wyoming came back, that Wyoming qb was playing well, and he threw some of the most risky passes I've seen. They just happen to be accurate passes. Either way, my first experience with feeling that way was against Wyoming in 1994. When we were losing 21-14 at halftime. We won the national championship that year. Also, I felt that way majorly in 1997 against MIssouri. I was having a mental breakdown as a 12 year old! But with an extreme amount of luck, we won, and we happened to win a national championship that year.
IT HAPPENS! Championship teams have close games like that. Just because we dominated EVERYONE in 1995 doesn't mean that every championship team dominates everyone. Teams need luck as much as we did in 1997 and 1994. Our 2013 and beyond will need that. I will be MORE THAN HAPPY to accept that, just like Auburn had to this year in the last second against Bama. Just like Texas did against us in 2008. The sensible accept that this has and always will happen. There's a reason our 1995 team is the greatest team of all time. They dominated. No one will say that about any previous NC team is the greatest of all time, because none have dominated (excluding that stupid 2001 Miami team, those guys are stupid).
Also, losing lopsided games against lesser competition. My first experience with that? 1996 against ASU. The score doesn't truly show the lopsided nature of that game. Sure ASU was a good team, but was that ASU team better than our team by the end of the season? My biased reasoning says we could beat that team if we played again or later in the season.
Anyway, let's just all say our GBR's! and stop being so negative towards eachother.
