Idea on Realignment

AR Husker Fan

Team HuskerBoard
This is probably a lousy idea, so just say so if that's the case, but...

I keep thinking that we, as a Board, need to do something to reflect the new world order. Not sure what. One idea I had was to have our graphics gurus create something showing all the Big 10 schools (including Nebraska). Perhaps 12 icons - say, 50 x 50 or 75 x 75 - that features each schools helmet, with the background of each icon being the dominant school color. Make them look "raised" or something. Each could then link to either that school's official web site (such as Huskers.com) or to its predominant message bourd. We could place them near the top - perhaps above or below the HuskerNation banner.

This isn't something we need to do quickly - realignment isn't over by a log shot, and I personally think that the Big 10 is going to end up with 14 or 16 teams anyway. But give it some thought - as the new kid, it might help members get used to it and learn something about our new brethern.

I think that's a great idea. You can get the helmets from any team in college football from The Helmet Project.

I already have the current Big 10 on my profile page:

Here are his use terms from the bottom of the front page:

What's in it for you
You may feel free to copy the helmet pictures on these pages and use them (in moderation) on your own non-commercial conference, school, or personal web pages. Universities and colleges, in particular, are welcome to use the collection in any way they wish, including media guides, game programs, etc., but I regret to note that I am unable to provide versions of the helmet images that are of different sizes or higher resolutions than you see at this site (the software that I have does not allow me to save the images at higher resolutions than you see here). All I would ask in return is that you help by posting a link to the "Helmet Project" from your web page so that additional people will find the site and contribute towards its development, and please contribute information yourself whenever you can. Commercial use of the images is NOT permitted, because the various colleges and professional teams own all such rights to their respective logos; so do not attempt to print these images onto some product that you intend to sell. Re-distribution of the images en masse on CD or other media is absolutely prohibited. Also, please don't be a jerk and copy the entire gallery of helmet images at this site off to another similar web site. I consider a few dozen images up to a hundred or so to be an acceptable number to use; many more than that is not.

"DISCLAIMERS"

* All logos depicted at this site should be regarded as being the property of the respective professional team or college. If you want to use these helmet images in ANY commercial sense, you must obtain permission from the respective team(s), not from this web site. Do not send me a "if we do not hear from you, we will assume permission is granted"-type message, either - permission is NOT granted to use these helmet images in any commercial sense.

* No guarantee can be made that helmet images shown here are accurate depictions of the "real" helmets. Although I have tried to maintain a high level of accuracy, much of the information at this site is based on visitor input and other sources of unknown reliability. Unfortunately, many people have submitted information that was later found to be inaccurate...this site should not be regarded as the "final word" on football helmets.

I think it's a good idea. I like the helmets and it seems like guy wouldn't mind us using a dozen or so of them on our site if we include a link.

How do these look?

We have a winner!

One thing - be sure and save the originals - I have a feeling we'll have to add to them with another 4 teams sooner or later. I know that the Big 10 is now saying they are backing off further expansion talks for 12 to 18 months, but I suspect that's to see what the Pac-10 and SEC does - and particularly to see whether anyone poaches a team or two from the Big East. I would also bet that they're doing that to see whether what comes will entice Notre Dame to join.

Now, we can put these up on the main page anytime, and I'm inclined to do so, but to what do we link them? The official school sites? Or to message boards? I'm inclined to go with the former for no other reason than it's tough to pick between competing message boards for each school. So - what's your thoughts?

Well, they're up there. Links are to official school sites. Seemed the easiest. So - opinions? Do we need to adjust? Any suggestions? And you won't hurt my feelings a bit if you say, "Hell, no, Frank - it's perfect!!!!"

huskeraddict - just wanted to say that you do wonderful work. I hope you're going to do another schedule wallpaper this year!
