I don't understand - this board is a PHP-based board. Can you detail some of the issues with other software that you don't want, and why? That would help us in deciding which software package to select.

He's talking about phpBB -> www.phpbb.com, not just php based message boards, phpBB does suck a little. All the modifications over time have kind of made it a mess imo..

Ah, my mistake. I thought he was talking about PHP-based boards in general.

I've used phpBB for a few projects, and have been pleased with the results. It is pretty much the standard in free message board software.

A decent alternative is YaBB. I did some work for them a few years ago, and just checked it out the other day.. looks like it has improved fairly well.
