Do what you gotta do.
Ah, there it is. Thanks for the update.I actually hadn't rep'd him until you said that...and now he's at seven.I'm so mad...the OP has 6 '+1's....how did Badgerfan get to vote '+1' 6 times?!
:facepalm:You think we can live inside the bubble that is Nebraska and survive? It's a business. People tend to forget that. It's what college football is today. It's why the biggest businesses are winning, and the smaller businesses are strugging. It's a very, very big deal. Public perception is important to the marketability and success of said business. It's not somethign that changes drastically from one year to the next (unless you are Penn State), but it is something that can be severely altered over time. No one can honestly say that Nebraska's image is improving. And again I say we cant worry about that other people around the country form their opinions based off of 30 second snippets on ESPN. Bo was in maniac mode for all of 2 minutes if that. Public perception is something one just cannot let drive them in their daily life, and problem with society anymore is that it does.
exactly, only a fool would say it is not a big deal.......public perceptions, image, marketing......come on folks, wake the hell up, anyone's rep can be tarnished by a 30 second utube rant......with all the tools in social networking yeah, it is a different world out there, where perception IS everything. Bo needs to understand that and be aware, he may be his own worse enemy.
Sure anytime, I thought you deserved at least one reply to the tons of posts you make about me....Ah, there it is. Thanks for the update.I actually hadn't rep'd him until you said that...and now he's at seven.I'm so mad...the OP has 6 '+1's....how did Badgerfan get to vote '+1' 6 times?!
how many coaches around the nation do we, as a fan base, care for? it's not uncommon to dislike opposing coaches. i do think BO is beginning to lose respect, but maybe not because he does have an impressive pedigree, he has not been here terribly long, NU was DOA when he got here, and we keep getting ranked fairly high in preseason polls despite our lackluster finishes. You are right about nobody outside of Nebraska liking Bo, though
Haha, no joke, but I was reading an old thread last night and CalifornaiHusker was ripping on Cosgrove, before the start of the '07 season. And folks were jumping in and defending Coz's record with "Top 25 defenses at Wisconsin" or something of the sort - basically making him out to be a negative nelly poo-pooing on the party.I guess the sane members of HB had not yet joined...You're a Husker fan and you know it, Lando. C'mon, bring it in for the hug![]()
You will always get flak for not being supportive of the current staff or the way things are going, that is just how it is. In 2006, anybody down on Callahan was shooed away.
I think you're right about this...I think a lot of times, our reactions to other people's opinions is based hugely on our own desire to remain optimistic - something which may or may not be rooted in reality.
...but I don't agree that the naysayers are necessarily coming from a noble place. Not all criticism is constructive, or well-meaning. Not all criticism is capable of achieving positive change, or intended to. There are a lot of people who just b!^@h to b!^@h. The Internet's anonymity fosters that, and you get the worst of people.Hence, don't jump too much on the naysayers. They might be right, even if you don't agree with the level of anger with which their opinion is expressed.
Pretty much the whole season actually. It isn't that I thought we were not doing well. The so-so, but decent, mark of this season was not apparent until really the bowl game. At that point, a 10-win season with another Top 10 victory was still in our sights, so things could have gone either way. I was just not as tuned in as I usually am -- and again, I struggle to really put a finger on it.At what point in time did you become "less" excited? I dont understand what there wasnt to be excited about up unitl the Iowa game. Going to Michigan we were still in the hunt with only 2 losses, just had a big win at Penn St. Be honest folks, everything was sunshine and rainbows till the 2nd half kickoff @ Michigan.
Yes, you are right. I should say: I tend to automatically disagree with naysayers who make their case with extreme vitriol, but that's a tendency I realize is illogical, and have to try to fight....but I don't agree that the naysayers are necessarily coming from a noble place. Well sir I pretty have to agree with a lot of what you said. I was just because I lost all my interest on the second half kickoff fumble @ Michigan. It was that moment the I realized this team was done. It just wasnt going to click yet. Made every home game except Washington to that point with high anticipation of each one but after the loss to NW seeing that disaster in person and then the Michiagan fiasco I had lost interest and was packing it in for the year, and hthen wife won tickets at work for the iowa game so we went anyway. but I hear you on the lack of excitement. I lost it after the NW loss for the most part, but before that I was still dialed in. It was just all the extra stuff with a new conference and then the Penn St. situation and the NW loss really took a lot out of us as a fan base.Pretty much the whole season actually. I think this season had some downers. We were expecting AA play at all three levels of the defense. We never got started off on the right foot there, and it was an ongoing issue all season. I was not too pleased that we saw three straight QBs early that were more impressive signal callers than Taylor Martinez, even if they were not as fast - and these were all young guns. And that was before the Wisconsin game, so maybe I should say five straight.
The weirdness surrounding the Penn State game was an external factor that contributed to it. A proud day for the Huskers, and it's certainly not Bo's fault it was a weird day. It is what it is.
I think the Ohio State game was a high point. That was an awesome day, awesome comeback. Everything after that, even the Michigan State victory, felt like riding on a meandering up-and-down wave. You know, maybe it's the brand of football we play. The victories tend to be boring outside of a few "gotcha" moments our offense springs on the opposing D. This is fine if we have a D that is providing highlights left and right, but that wasn't the case this season.
Don't take this as a decisive commentary on Bo or anything, but I think the questions that have started to arise about Bo's ability to get his team up for every game, consistently, also figures in this. I didn't take any of that seriously until this year.
Talent-wise, I felt we were a lot better than we finished. But when you have no idea what kind of team to expect week-in, week-out...you are left not really knowing what to make of the season.
Right. And then are you going to try to grow pointy Spock ears? Come on man, you're human. Admit it.Yes, you are right. The 2010 SDSU didn't do this?Don't take this as a decisive commentary on Bo or anything, but I think the questions that have started to arise about Bo's ability to get his team up for every game, consistently, also figures in this. I didn't take any of that seriously until this year.
