I have always been a part of Husker Nation. You see Husker Nation is not just a web site, it is a family of die-hard Husker fans. I was born and raised in Falls City, NE. My first memory of the Huskers was in the early 80's when the BIG RED played Clemson. The first team I remember was the Mike Rozier team that should have won the National Championship. I am an old-style Husker fan...our rival is, and always will be Oklahoma. I know we had a crappy year last year, but when Oklahoma got beat up in the national Championship game last year, order was restored. Some of my favorite moments as a husker fan. Listening to the Huskers on radio with Kent Pavelka and his cry of, "TOUCHDOWN, TOUCHDOWN, TOUCHDOWN." Going to Notre Dame, and seeing the Huskers beat the Irish in OT (By the way, GREAT Turnout!!!) Beating the crap out of Peyton Manning, and giving Tom a National Championship for his last victory. Spending a Saturday in the third largest city in Nebraska, and watching the boys play. Meeting other Husker fans.
There are a few Moments I would like to forget. The 7-8 consecutive bowl losses in the 80's/90's. I tend to remember a game in Lincoln against Washington...we were winning (I believe winning going into the 4th quarter.) and we lost. That was my first game in Lincoln. I was at the Orange Bowl when Miami shut out the Huskers 22-0, and I was also at the Citrus Bowl when Georgia Tech beat the Huskers. I was not real happy when we were taken out to the woodshed by Colorado...that was the beginning of the end...downhill from there.
My favorite player(s) Mike Rozier, Tommie Frazier, Corey S. A. Green (I happened to have the chance to shake hands with A. Green...he was back on campus getting ready to get his degree.) T. Rathman, G.Wistrom, D. Brinson, D. Erstad...and all of the walk-ons who simply just wanted to be Huskers.
My favorite play: Not sure what it is called, but it is when the QB takes the ball, runs behind the O-Line towards the sideline...fakes the hand-off to the F-Back, and then drops back 3-5 steps and passes the ball. No one ever figured that one out.
That is it for now...I hope to post more later.
