Iowa - What Did We Learn?

Sorry, I like Bo and I liked his wins and we all hate every loss so that argument is not valid.  We all did the "He gets blown out in big games" bit but there are no big games if you are not winning a lot of games.

And last night was a close loss, how did that feel, did you guys LOVE it.

Anyway.  Rhule might be "the answer" but I think it is going to be as a CEO, which is fine, no one cares.  Just hire great coordinators and let them hire their asst coaches.

Worry less about HS recruiting and "developing" which I know Husker fans are in love with.  Let lame schools from the MAC and Sun Valley (is that a conference) develop guys for you, for 2-3 years, and then bring them here.

I put it 60% s#!t coaches and 40% s#!t players.

mcguire, satt and foley should be canned tomorrow. Sign Dana to a 2 year, let him pick guys for bowl game to start prepping for next season now.

play all young guys in the bowl and let’s see what we have to work with.  I thank the upperclassmen for their dedication and what they’ve given to the progrum, some for 6 years, but I’ve seen enough and wish them luck.
Dana lost me some last nite for the 2nd half calls.  BUT, I like your idea.  He has 15 practices to audition for the permanent spot. Unsure how much Rhule does with the day to day and game planning, but he needs to give Dana the keys to the offense from top to bottom. Who starts, play calling etc….Rhule needs to keep his mouth shut. His influence and culture building have us at .500. Awesome.  It also had us pooping our pants in a winnable (game that was won) on national tv again.  Teams take on the personality of their leadership…..

I don't think Dana is going to have to audition.  I mean, I guess I don't really think he will be "interviewing" for the job.  I think he will either want it or not want it.

I posted the same last nite. We are all assuming he wants it. He has seen behind the curtain and might realize we are a crap show from top to bottom and might not want to be attached to this.

Or he might see it as a challenge.  I’m sure he’s also wondering can he release staff, players, be in charge of recruiting his offense, staff, guys in the portal etc…..

Last night laid bare a whole lot of issues with this team and staff.

Yep!

Plus, Rhule said it himself, he said he is really conservative (scared), if you will.

Dana is the opposite and you could see it in the play calls last night.  Rhule and Satt would have just had 3 and outs all night.

So they might not click in the end.  But Dana did take some heat off Rhule and if they win a lame bowl game it will make for a much better off season.

It comes down to how they coach the kids up. And the mental toughness. Can’t let one mistake become 2,3,4. Missed fg, fumbled punt, multiple times putting the ball on the turf. Protect the dang ball, for cryin out loud.

There was one play call that should have been swallowed, it was the end around with Nelson. Dumb. Other than that, it comes down to pushing these kids to execute, which both staff and players failed their respective roles.

They could have won 10 games this season with the right mental makeup. This offseason will need to be the turning point for Rhule to show he can arrange a staff that can emphasize fundamentals, discipline, execution, and coach kids up to succeed in the face of adversity.

Yeah, I think this is fair.

The bowl game is lame (all bowls are lame now) BUT at least it is another game to watch and talk about.

Next season will be interesting and is clearly the make/break year for Rhule.
IMHO, I do not think this staff, in its current configuration, is up to the task. In year 2, what position has improved?  How have they "learned to win"?  Over come mistakes?  I just remember watching last night and KNEW that the muffed punt meant we'd lose.  It's like a liver shot in boxing, we take one and we are done.  Throw in portal transfer misses and we just seem to be a car running on 3 good tires and no wipers in driving at night in the rain...

I would have no problem with an entire new staff.

I know some fans are like "but the money!" but honestly, that is not a concern, the only concern is having a good FB team.  And NU is getting really close to become a typical lame a$$ Big Ten team.  That can't happen.
