IP.Board Version Updates

So I don't know how this has been done in the past.  I got a notification that there is an update available to version 4.2.3 (currently 4.2.2) and that it is recommended to upgrade as soon as possible because it includes a security update.

I don't know if we can just dot the update or we have to schedule it with someone or what all hoops need to be jumped through.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Yeah, I saw that too. I'm guessing it will only show up for admins. I wish it gave us more info, because I've been on the bad end of an update that didn't work, and it's no fun to troubleshoot! Maybe reach out to zoogs?

I don't think so either.  The only thing that was hanging me up was the little blurb about it possibly not running right if you log into the Admin CP via https but not the main site.  Wasn't sure what that was supposed to mean.

Thanks!

Yea that makes me think I'll have to do it manually as that's how we have it configured. The old version of the board didn't really support SSL everywhere, which is why we didn't do that. Perhaps this version has better SSL support and we can SSL the whole site.

@DaveH did you get a chance to run the previous update?  I see there is a 4.2.4 update now.

If it worked fine for you and that's something I can do let me know.

@Mavric No I didn't. I didn't want to mess with it too much during the season in case something goes wrong.

Unless there is something glaring that we need to fix I think leaving it until the board calms a bit is a good idea. If I do them and see that they're pretty much straight forward then doing them during the season will be fine.

Do you have any info on getting an FTP connection to the host server?  Or do you want to try to run the version update?  We're having a lot of issues and they're not really going to help us until we're on the current version.

I'll look into it this week. Though, I'm not sure any of the problems you mentioned that email string will actually be fixed with an upgrade. We'll see.

Ok, after thinking about this more, if the host tried to configure the web server to load the site over HTTPS all the time without also configuring the board to be aware of this, things would definitely be broken.  Let's not do that again :)

It seems like they reversed this, so things should be back to normal.

Yeah, I kept trying to tell the guy who emailed about doing the "reconfiguration" that it was causing the problems.  I haven't heard back from him but perhaps they reversed it.

I couldn't find any settings for this on the board.  Do you know if there are settings that need changed to make it work?

Yea, IIRC there SSL settings on the board if you want to make the whole site covered in SSL.  I'd have to search the CP to find it but I'm sure it's in there somewhere.

I don't think we actually need to do the whole site in SSL, but I think it's an option.

Can you try running the update when you have a chance?  I can’t seem to get it to go.
