Stoops didn't fare too well his 1st year and he had quite a bit of talent on that team. Callahan didn't fare well this season and I think his talent was much less than Stoops had his 1st year at OU. This will be much easier to compare in 3-4 years when we see if Callahan adjusts to the college game and we start getting gamebreakers to come to school here again. Stoops is a much better coach now, but OU fans were pretty pissed last year after their back-to-back losses to close out the year. And if you watched OU vs KSt this year, Snyder did outcoach Stoops but the talent level on OU's side was the difference in the end.
Stoops took a 3 win team and made them go something like 7-4. Callahan took a 10 win team and took them to 5-6.
Stoops and Callahan both struggled their 1st years was my point. Stoops had more talent than Callahan. When is everyone going to realize this was not the same team as last year? If you were excited about that team last year and the direction we were headed you're insane! We hadn't beat a ranked team since OU in 2001. What makes you think Frank could have done so much better this year? He lost his best offensive player and 3 of his best defensive players. The Sooners were 5-6 in 1998 btw, and in 99 had Josh Heupel, Jason White, Quentin Griffen, Roy Williams, Rocky Calmus, Andre Woolfolk, Antwan Savage, Stockar McDougle. Quite a bit more talent than the Huskers in 03. Stoops inherited talent when he took over.
